What you will be doing The Aboriginal Health Worker works as key member of the multi-disciplinary team to provide primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, including activities in response to the physical, emotional, cultural and environmental needs of people and communities.
Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage (NB applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) Selection Criteria Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage and have established links with their local Aboriginal community. Hold a minimum of Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care OR a relevant Certificate III health qualification OR a formal commitment to complete a Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
Training will be supported by the district and must be completed within 2 years from enrolment. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the local Aboriginal community, including an awareness of the issues that impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Understanding of the complexities of Aboriginal chronic disease and preventable lifestyle illness and how this relates to cultural understanding of health issues. Demonstrated capacity to plan, develop, deliver and evaluate health promotion and education initiatives. Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and consult with others, including the ability to interact sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people.
