Fixed Term, part time (0.8FTE) to full time (1.0FTE) contract - until 30/06/2026 This position is designated for female Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people only. The Role Menzies is looking for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner to join the Azithromycin at Birth Trial research team. Be part of a new, randomised controlled trial to assess whether a single dose of oral azithromycin given before birth will reduce the rate of bacterial infections in mothers and babies. The Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner will work with the Azithromycin at birth research team to screen and recruit women into the trial and follow up with mothers and babies. They will do clinical assessments, collect samples, collect data, and perform data entry. They will be joining a friendly and supportive team, with training on study procedures and the opportunity to develop their research skills and knowledge.
This position is based in Darwin and will require travel to remote communities (by light aircraft or 4WD) for participant recruitment for up to three (3) days per trip, up to ten (10) trips per year.
We are seeking a person who has an interest in developing research skills, who may or may not have previous experience conducting research. This role requires good communication skills, including with people who may be in challenging times in their lives, and so experience in working with patients, clients, research participants, or community members will be valuable. You will have the ability to engage with Aboriginal people and people from diverse cultures, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with research colleagues and our health professional partners.

The Benefits Base salary $88,054 - $94,618 per annum, pro-rata (total remuneration package including superannuation $110,526 - $118,009 per annum, pro-rata). Indigenous Knowledge Allowance of $3,236 per annum, pro-rata. Generous leave provisions including 6 weeks annual leave.
