Position Title: Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP)/ Registered Nurse (RN)Base Salary: $87,809 to $110,813 p.a.WHO ARE WE? Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
ABOUT THE ROLE The Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP)/Registered Nurse (RN) provides high quality, comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of the Greater Darwin Area. Supported by and supporting other health practitioners both within DDHS and the community. This role is crucial to maintaining cultural integrity and advocates strongly for our clients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Be a first point of contact for clients attending the DDHS Clinics, including completing an initial diagnosis, treatment, and referrals as necessary (SODAF).With guidance from a senior clinician, work as per CARPA guidelines.Screen patients and treat according to standards and patient's journey.Identify 'at risk' clients, e.g., older people, youth, and children.Perform child and/or adult health checks.Provide early intervention, coordinated care and information and referral services.Support General Practitioners and other medical staff including visiting health professionals and specialists.Provide day to day health care service activities within the context of Primary Health Care in a professional, confidential, and culturally safe manner.Provide cultural brokerage between patients and non-indigenous staff to provide culturally safe and appropriate advice and support to contribute to better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Contribute to the effective management of patient care plan systems, including participating in patient care conferences, managing patient follow-up procedures.SELECTION CRITERIA Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse with a current AGV Certificate.Well-developed knowledge of, and contemporary experience in, working with clients with chronic health conditions and relevant management strategies.Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.Demonstrated ability to use culturally sensitive ways to ensure improved client access to DDHS and/or other health services.Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.Demonstrated computer skills, especially in the use of client information systems or similar.Experience utilising standard treatment manuals in a primary health care setting.Remote health experience and/or emergency care experience.Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar environment.IN RETURN WE OFFER6 weeks annual leave.5 days paid leave during end-of-year shut down (additional to annual leave).Salary packaging up to $15,990 per annum, plus additional packaging options.Career development and training opportunities.For further information please contact - Robert Bickerton | Clinic Team Leader |
