About The PositionThe Foster Care and Respite Service recruits, trains, assesses and supports Foster Carers to provide children and young people with a safe, nurturing and stable home to live, when it isn't possible for them to live at home with their parents or family.
As the Aboriginal Cultural Practitioner, you will promote and support Foster Care Support Workers and Foster Carers throughout the service region in the importance of cultural safety and connections.
You will deliver Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training and provide assessment of the Aboriginal Cultural competency for existing and potential foster carers in accordance with the Step by Step Assessment tool, our Foster Care Policies and Procedures, and the National Standards for Out-of-home Care.
You will:Understand the importance of and ensure accurate information is collected and stored in the relevant database/s.Communicate verbally and in writing with clients, other staff and stakeholders in a clear, timely and positive manner.Have the ability to plan and organise workload to achieve specific outcomes within set time frames.Engage positively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and deliver culturally appropriate and respectful services.Conduct Aboriginal Cultural Training and assessment of existing and potential carer households.It is essential for you to have:Current Australian Drivers Licence.Current Child Safe Environments - Through Their Eyes.It is desirable for you to have:Certificate IV (or above) in a Human Services or Community Development related discipline.A Social Work and/or related Human Service Degree.Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.You will also need to be available for some out of hours or weekend work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.

Tell us about your work experience relevant to this role.What is your experience in working with children and families?As researching and learning about other Aboriginal language groups will form part of this role, share an example of how you have used your research skills to build connections with other language groups.Why do you think it is important for non-Aboriginal families to learn about Aboriginal culture, and how would you assist non-Aboriginal families to keep connecting Aboriginal children with their Culture, Country and Family?Summarise your Report Writing skills.Your responses to these questions should contain examples where possible.
