Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Moree, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.
About the role The Aboriginal Child & Family Worker plays a vital role in improving the resilience of Indigenous families with children aged 0-18.
This position is responsible for supporting families in navigating the education system, addressing barriers to enhance their wellbeing, and connecting them with relevant services.
The support worker will work closely with the Social & Emotional Wellbeing Team to provide culturally sensitive case management, referrals, and support services to vulnerable families.
As a key member of the team, you will develop and implement case plans tailored to the needs of vulnerable children and their families, facilitate referrals, and engage in local events to foster strong, child-friendly communities.
Your expertise in identifying and addressing vulnerabilities affecting family wellbeing and children's educational transitions will be essential in this role.
You will also implement culturally specific activities promoting identity and community connection, ensuring that services are delivered in a culturally sensitive and holistic manner.
Reporting relationships The role reports to the Team Leader of the Social and Emotional Well Being Team in Wellington.
Key Responsibilities Develop and implement culturally sensitive case plans for vulnerable children and families.Conduct assessments and identify strengths, needs, and goals for each family.Provide ongoing support and guidance to families to achieve their goals.Engage in local events and activities to promote the program and build relationships with the community.Facilitate connections between families and relevant services and support.Develop and maintain partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders.Provide referrals to internal and external services to support families' needs.Ensure families have access to necessary resources and assistance.Collaborate with other services to ensure comprehensive support.Implement culturally specific activities to promote identity and community connection.Ensure services are delivered in a culturally sensitive and holistic manner.Provide cultural guidance and support to families and staff.Work collaboratively with the Social & Emotional Wellbeing Team and external services.Ensure effective communication and coordination of services.Identify vulnerabilities affecting family wellbeing and children's educational transitions.Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and address vulnerabilities.Comply with any reasonable instructions, policies and procedure given by their employer, business or controller of the workplace.Report on all OH&S incidents to your direct line manager.Take reasonable care of yourself and others around you.Experience, Qualifications & Licenses Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.Ability to work in a team environment.Experience with reporting and data collection.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.Organized and able to meet deadlines.Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous families and communities.Willingness to learn and adapt to technology platforms relevant to the role, including:Case management software and databases.Electronic reporting and data collection tools.Communication and collaboration platforms (e.g.
email, video conferencing).Basic computer skills and ability to quickly learn new systems.Ability to maintain accurate and secure electronic records.Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and current issues affecting lives of Aboriginal people.Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services, Family Support, Social Work, or a related field.Bachelor's degree in social work, Indigenous Studies, or a related field (desirable).Qualifications in Indigenous health and wellbeing, cultural competency, or case management (desirable).A Certificate of Aboriginality.A Current National Police Check.A Current Working with Children Check NSW.Current Driver's License that allows you to drive in Australia.COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster information (or evidence of a valid medical exemption). #J-18808-Ljbffr
