The Council is an advisory body, without legislated powers, but with the Minister's endorsement to actively engage with the community, and to report to the Minister on relevant current issues and strategic matters; and to recommend ideas, initiatives or specific action in regard to the arts, culture and creative sector in the ACT.The MCC is a group of creative people who use their unique perspective and expertise to contribute to positive discussion and practical advice on the arts in Canberra. Active participation is required of all members.Job descriptionA vacancy exists for a member of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community on the MCC.This position is specifically designated in accordance with Section s42, Discrimination Act 1991, and as such, it is exclusively available to individuals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.Members are expected to:participate in meeting discussions,consult with their personal networks and contribute to work projects;advise the Secretariat when they have completed agreed actions arising from previous meetings;and maintain links with the arts, culture and creative sector.Members are selected due to their knowledge and experience and are appointed as individuals to provide advice in the best interests of the ACT community.
