This is a 12 month fixed term, part-time (0.7 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2025 with possible extension.Esperance Senior High School (SHS) offers a comprehensive secondary education from Year 7 to 12 and provides a range of curriculum subject choices and exciting extracurricular activities.The school has a reputation for providing strong academic and vocational programs and for offering a wide choice of courses to meet a variety of student learning needs.
Students consistently achieve to a high level in a variety of programs, including in final Year 12 Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathway results.Esperance lies in the South-East of Western Australia, some 730 kilometres from Perth.
The town has won awards for its stunning natural environment and is one of Western Australia's best kept tourist secrets.The RoleAs an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO), you will play a key role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their families, teachers, the school, and the wider community.
You will ideally help share knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language, and culture, fostering a deeper connection and respect within the school environment.AIEOs act as a vital liaison between the community and the school, working to create an education program that addresses both the educational and cultural needs of students.
You will provide essential mentoring and pastoral care, particularly for students at risk, ensuring their engagement and success within the school community.AIEOs also support teachers in implementing the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.
Ideal candidates will ideally have a strong connection to Aboriginal culture and the ability to build positive relationships with families and the local community.

Your application should include:A CV of up to two to three (2-3) pages outlining your employment history and professional learning summary relevant to this position.A two (2) page statement addressing the following selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF:Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of educational programs.Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences, including community members, teaching and other professionals.Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.Demonstrated ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.Your application must be received before the closing date and time.
