Selection CriteriaSC1. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the area of inclusive education and supporting learners with additional needs, including the capacity to work directly with students who have complex behavioural and learning needs.
SC2. Extensive knowledge of and experience with neurodiverse young people.
SC3. Ability to deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to students and families in an educational environment. Service encompasses assessment, analysis, reporting, individual/group work, education and program delivery advice.
SC4. Ability to contribute to the design and delivery of professional learning to other relevant professionals, in the area of Occupational Therapy combined with a demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others.
SC5. Sound knowledge and understanding of mandatory reporting procedures, confidentiality and student rights.
SC6. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills.
SC7. Relevant qualifications in the areas of occupational therapy and registration with relevant peak body.
RoleThe Occupational Therapist position works directly with individuals and groups of students who are supported through the PSD and DI programs to provide direct support or intervention to address barriers to engagement and learning.
The Occupational Therapist will ensure students with disabilities and additional needs are engaged in education and meeting their learning goals. To do this they work collaboratively with the school's teaching team, wellbeing staff and allied health team. They also work collaboratively with services/teams outside school, which may include community/health-based services and external therapists.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
The Occupational Therapist will build long term relationships with students and their support networks as you help them to create a vision for a life with positive interactions, activities and experiences.
It is expected that the person in this position will:
Provide Occupational Therapy assessment and design, implement and evaluate therapy according to students' individual needs in collaboration with school staff.Regularly evaluate progress and outcomes, using relevant measures, and provide reports when necessary.Develop and facilitate groups based on student needs.Provide occupational therapy consultancy to teachers including support in the development of individual educational programs and classroom management.Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to provide the best possible outcomes for the students.Assessing the school and learning space environments to identify modifications and supports that will improve student safety and promote independence.As part of the school's Inclusion Team support the application process of Disability Inclusion funding.Maintain records and relevant documentation in student files.ResponsibilitiesSpecific Duties - Management Support students with behaviour within the classroom and around the school.Conduct classroom observations and the collection of data.Completion of occupational therapy based assessments. Analysis of behaviour displayed by students.Develop behaviour support plans in collaboration with teachers and Head of School.Support and empower staff to develop strategies in dealing with challenging behaviour.Establish positive working relationships with vulnerable students and their families in order to support their needs within school.Support staff in improving behaviour, attendance and progress by working with designated groups and individuals as required.Support and assist the wider Student Services Team and Student Engagement Team as directed and as required.Establish working routines and maintain case notes and reports. Provide staff with requested information as required.Attend meetings within school and externally as required.Liaise with parents as required.To undertake the necessary training/development required in order to keep up to date with developments as identified through PDP.With the Student Services Manager and team complete applications through Disability Inclusion for individual student funding.Support and implement SWPB processes and procedures.Specific Duties - Administration Attend meetings (SSG) as requested, giving feedback on student progress.Attend regular meetings as instructed.Prep activities, visual aids and other material required by the students for their class.Communication with and plan with teachers in relation to requirements of the students in the classroom.Refer students to specialised services when needed.Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the Colleges policies and procedures, particularly relating to students who require case management.Develop and provide regular reports as required.Complete case notes on a daily basis.Undertake special tasks or contribute to events as required.Pro-actively share information and identify and escalate any issues, difficulties or problems; follow up to ensure that any issues are resolved and communicated appropriately.Assist families with the NDIS application process and reviews.Assist in the development of safety plans and crisis plans.Who May ApplyQualifications Required: Relevant tertiary qualifications in areas of Occupational Therapy and registration with peak body.Working with Children Check.EEO AND OHS CommitmentApplicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction.
