Guided by our Leadership Team, you will receive dedicated support and guidance in your role as a Learning Specialist, ensuring your success in both the classroom and your leadership responsibilities.
As a Learning Specialist at Karwan Primary School, you will play a pivotal role in our educational community. Your responsibilities will include actively engaging with students in the classroom for three and a half days, fostering their learning and growth, working within a Professional Learning Team (PLT), and working closely with families. Additionally, you will dedicate one and a half days to non-classroom activities, contributing to the professional development of our teaching staff.
Learning Specialists are active members of the School Improvement Team (SIT) and play a vital role as middle leaders at Karwan Primary School, bridging the connection between the Leadership Team, Teachers, and Education Support Personnel. It is imperative for Learning Specialists to align their direction with that of the Leadership Team.

Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers, and facilitating school-based professional learning.
Selection Criteria SC1: Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum and ability to model exemplary teaching practice.
SC2: Demonstrated expertise in high-impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs.
SC3: Demonstrated ability to model the monitoring and assessment of student learning.
SC4: Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.
SC5: Demonstrated ability to model behaviours consistent with Department values.
Responsibilities The key roles of the Learning Specialists may include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice Modelling exemplary classroom practice Working with the school leadership team to develop a shared view of effective teacher practice Leading and modelling the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies Providing expert advice about the context, processes, and strategies that will shape individual and school professional learning Supervising and training student teachers and mentoring teachers Modelling exemplary use of student data to inform teaching approaches Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
