Fulltime contract, commencing January 2025Closing Date: 3pm Friday 1st NovemberMilkwood Steiner School is situated on Larrakia land (Darwin), in the tropical north of Australia delivering a Steiner Curriculum to 170 students from Kindergarten to Class 8. Our school has unique large tropical style buildings with classrooms that open out on to broad verandas, with a playground that extends to a beautiful native bushland. Our school is growing and adding an additional class in 2025, so we are seeking another teacher to join our College.We are a thriving, growing school, with a welcoming community and children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Our College of Teachers are committed to applying the richness of a Steiner Education to the unique cultural and environmental context of Australia's Top End. We are seeking a colleague who has a strong desire to grow our school with us. The successful applicant will ideally aspire to work with their appointed class for a minimum of 3 years.Milkwood teachers are supported by highly experienced teacher assistants and a rich release/specialist subject program. A Learning Enrichment teacher supports teachers, classes and individual students with diverse learning needs.Milkwood Steiner School delivers a model of classroom teaching that allows each child to reach their full potential, through the richness of the Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework. When additional support is needed, the College of Teachers draws on a deep understanding of Steiner Pedagogy and child development, to collaborate with a Learning Enrichment Specialist to design Educational Adjustment Plans and interventions, documenting recommendations and referrals, to meet a child's needs.In practice, this role includes a combination of classroom teaching, and running programs for 1:1 or small groups to address individualised academic, social, emotional or behavioural goals. For some children these interventions may be temporary, and for others, the support will be ongoing. It also includes time working with class groups, collaboratively delivering areas of learning that build on and support the class teacher's direction for the class.The learning enrichment teacher has a high level of experience and expertise in inclusive education, disability and trauma-informed practice, and gifted education in the Primary School setting. They have an excellent knowledge of assessment processes and are confident leading a process for writing Educational Adjustment Plans in collaboration with other staff, specialists and the child's family. They are creative and resourceful, and have the skills to adapt their practice to a Steiner setting.Key ResponsibilitiesWork effectively with the College of Teachers, Principal, Administration Staff and external student support servicesDevelop, document, assess and report on Educational Adjustment Plans for individual students based on best practice interventions for inclusion, wellbeing, and learningEngage with incident reporting, behaviour management reporting and mandatory reporting as requiredDevelop and oversee a range of student activities including learning support, health and wellbeing and social/emotional learning programsCommunicate with parents and staff via email, phone or face-to-faceAttend relevant meetings, including a reasonable number of planning meetings, at the discretion of the PrincipalDeliver 2 x Staff in-services and 2 x parent information sessions per year, on topics identified as needed for professional learning, by the Principal and College of Teachers.Key Selection CriteriaRegistered for or eligible for Teacher Registration in the NT, an Ochre Card, Current First AidSpecialised training in one or more of Inclusive Education, Disability, Trauma-informed Education, Gifted Education or qualifications in a therapeutic profession.Demonstrated experience leading, planning, delivering and assessing best-practice Educational Adjustment Plans, in collaboration with staff, students and parents.A high level of skill in reporting, verbal and written communication.A love for children and an inclusive approach that values diversity and wellbeingA commitment to the principles of Steiner EducationTraining in any area of Steiner Education, or experience working in a Steiner SchoolCover Letter addressing the selection criteriaIndigenous applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
