Selection CriteriaSC1: Demonstrate capacity to take on responsibility and work independently.SC2: Excellent organisational skills and the ability to take initiative in the running of Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics) Laboratories and Technology (Wood/Metal/Plastic/Digital) Workshops.SC3: Knowledge of laboratory and workshop first aid treatment and procedures.SC4: Knowledge and experience in the use of Technology Machinery and Equipment.SC5: Excellent communication skills, which reflect a special understanding of the relationship between the college, staff, parents, and students.SC6: Demonstrated capacity and experience with ICT including Microsoft products.RoleThe position carries management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services.
Typical duties include:
ResponsibilitiesThe position has line management responsibilities to the Principal and Business Manager, however on a day-to-day basis is accountable to the Science and Technology Leader.
Science and Laboratory Technician Preparation of laboratory equipment and materials for science classes.Preparation of solutions, stains and media for use in the Laboratory.Provide assistance to small groups of students in practical science sessions.Assist science teaching staff with demonstrations.Provide technical support to the Science Faculty.Advise science teaching staff on technical components of curriculum.Advise and assist science teaching staff in safety matters.Assist Science Learning Area Head with ordering and purchases.Employ safe work practices in the science laboratory.Maintain MSDS and update files for chemicals.Compile risk assessments on all chemicals.Ensure identified risks are reported to appropriate personnel.Maintain an inventory and provide safe storage of laboratory equipment.Specialise in the cleaning of laboratory equipment and work areas.Provide safe storage and disposal of chemicals and biological residues.Service and clean laboratory apparatus/equipment.Develop maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment.Technology (wood/metal/digital) Workshop Technician Preparation of materials for technology classes.Provide assistance to small groups of students in practical technology sessions.Assist Technology Learning Area Head with ordering and purchases.Maintain and employ safe work practices with machinery.Ensure identified risks are reported to appropriate personnel.Maintain an inventory and provide safe storage of technology equipment.Develop maintenance procedures for technology equipment.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
