Join our Governance, Risk & Communications team as a WHS and Risk Officer, where you'll play a key role in advancing workplace health, safety, and risk management practices across our organisation. In this role, you'll be responsible for providing high-level support to ensure legislative compliance, adherence to the 'Performance Standards for Self-Insurers,' and fostering a proactive approach to risk and opportunity management. Your work will involve developing, implementing, and maintaining our Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework, contributing to a safe, compliant, and resilient workplace.What You'll DoSupport WHS Systems Development: Assist the Senior WHS & Risk Management Officer in developing and implementing Council's WHS management systems, including providing essential administrative support.Policy & Procedure Management: Facilitate, develop, review, and implement WHS policies, procedures, and documents to ensure compliance with current legislation and industry standards.Risk Assessment & Safety Compliance: Conduct and review WHS risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and safe work procedures, supporting a culture of compliance and safety.Collaborate for Success: Work closely with the Manager Governance, Risk, and Communications, Senior WHS & Risk Management Officer, and stakeholders to achieve WHS goals outlined in the WHS & Risk Management Plan.System Maintenance & Data Accuracy: Manage the Skytrust system, ensuring data is accurately recorded and maintained, and support staff in its use.Incident Investigation Support: Assist leaders and the Senior WHS & Risk Management Officer in investigating incidents and near-misses, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.Risk Management Support: Facilitate operational risk assessments, maintain the corporate risk register, and support risk reporting efforts.Training & Development: Coordinate WHS training programs, maintain training records, and ensure staff are equipped with up-to-date safety knowledge.Safety Audits & Inspections: Conduct regular WHS audits, safety inspections, and site visits, addressing any compliance gaps.Reporting & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of incidents, hazards, and WHS activities, and prepare quarterly reports as required.Committee & Emergency Planning: Assist with the Work Health and Safety Committee (WHSC), Emergency Planning Committee (EPC), and emergency management plans, including evacuation exercises.Return to Work & Rehabilitation Support: Administer Return to Work (RTW) claims, provide rehabilitation support, and back-fill for the Senior WHS & Risk Management Officer as needed.Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with staff, contractors, and stakeholders, promoting a positive safety culture and ensuring understanding of WHS responsibilities.What You'll BringProven experience in a WHS role, preferably within a self-insured environment.Proven experience in high level office administration.Experience in conducting and facilitating risk assessments, maintaining safety management systems (e.g., Skytrust), and supporting risk plan implementation.High level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with other staff, external stakeholders in the resolution of routine and usual matters.Strong knowledge of Work Health & Safety Act 2012 and Return to Work Act 2014.Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and ability to utilise various IT platforms.Ability to develop and deliver effective WHS and risk management training programs.Ability to work with limited direction.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.Why Join Us?At Port Lincoln City Council, we prioritize a supportive and inclusive environment where every team member can thrive.
