Their responsibilities include handling cadaveric specimens, assisting with anatomy practicals, maintaining databases related to specimen tracking, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and university policies, managing laboratory equipment and waste disposal, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in the anatomy laboratories.The Technical Assistant will report to the Team Leader Lab Operations has no direct reports. Key Accountabilities (but not limited to): Perform dissections of human cadaveric specimens for teaching as required.Assist with selecting appropriate specimens and resources for anatomy practicals and set-up all computers and audiovisual equipment required for classes.Set-up and dissemble laboratory (including moving cadaveric specimens) for practical sessions as required.Provide technical assistance to teaching demonstrations and assist in supervision of practical exams, as required and from time to time.Maintain updates of the BATS databases associated with specimen tracking system, to ensure records in relation to human materials are accurate in accordance with relevant legislation Anatomy Act (1977), subsequent amendments and UNSW policies and procedures.Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment and teaching aids.Assist with the disposal of all types of waste including biological, chemical and fresh & embalmed cadaveric waste.Maintain the operational requirements of the Anatomy laboratories and ensure rooms are clean, functional and adhere to WHS procedures.Ensure that all activities and behaviour at all times are conducted in accordance with the Anatomy Act (1977), the Human Tissue Act (1983), the Public Health Act (1991) and subsequent amendments, and the conditions of the University Anatomy Licence. Skills Required: A Certificate in relevant discipline or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.Extensive knowledge of human anatomy with experience in dissection of cadaveric material. An understanding of the NSW Anatomy Act 1977 and the NSW Human Tissue and Anatomy Legislation Amendment Act 2003 and demonstrated experience in applying this legislation in the workplace.Proven technical support skills with knowledge in the use of relevant preservatives and corrosive/toxic chemicals.Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.Demonstrated organisational skills, with ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines work both independently and as part of a team.Proficiency with standard computer software.An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
