From our offices in Brisbane and a network of regional offices and manufacturing hubs, more than 700 DRDMW staff work to create a Queensland where communities, businesses and water resources are sustainable and resilient.The RoleSenior Water Officers (Compliance) are responsible for delivery of compliance and enforcement activities relating to the State's water resources and to provide support and advice on the sustainable management and use of water through implementation of relevant legislation and policy. Operating from within North Region, these positions provide water management support, including response to customer complaints and enquiries, catchment auditing and compliance response activities within the regional area, to a diverse range of internal and external clients.Senior Water Officers are required to proactively participate in an enthusiastic team to build a positive, outcomes-focused culture. You will advise, negotiate and consult with landholders, industry and community stakeholders on water management issues. These positions will be based within the Water Monitoring and Compliance work unit, focusing on water compliance and riverine quarry. You may be required to change focus depending on departmental priorities and requirements in other areas of the business.The role can be based in beautiful Cairns, Ayr, Longreach; Mackay; Mareeba; Rockhampton; South Johnson or Townsville.Key Accountabilities:Oversee, investigate and report on water entitlement performance, breaches of entitlement conditions, complaints, and disputes relating to all water resources and riverine matters regulated by the department.Carry out regulatory audits and inspections to determine the extent of development and usage of water resources within catchment areas.Advise management and project teams on resource management issues through the preparation of briefs and correspondence, as well as representing the department in community forums.Communicate effectively with staff, management, clients, industry representatives and the general public in providing water management and compliance services, both oral and written.Prepare and review written reports, including investigation outcome recommendations and field audits and inspections, in a clear, concise and professional manner.About YouPrevious experience as an authorised officer under the Water Act 2000 or other legislative framework/s would be highly regarded.Previous experience communicating regulatory requirements and engaging with affected parties, of varying demographics and industry backgrounds, would be highly regarded.Manual driver's licence would be highly regarded.Travel away from the centre may be required.The BenefitsGenerous State government employee benefits.Personalised hybrid flexible working arrangements.Inclusive work environment with career development.Enthusiastic team focused on making a difference.DRDMW is committed to respecting, protecting and promoting human rights in our decision-making and actions.
