We have every expectation that this contract will renew for 2025 and Majarlin staff will be offered a new contract for the next funding cycle.

About the office Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health (Majarlin) is a Commonwealth-funded University Department of Rural Health (UDRH). Majarlin's central office is based on the University's Broome campus and sits as an academic institute within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery and Health Sciences. Majarlin's aim is to "contribute to the development of a capable and culturally responsive Kimberley health workforce through inspiration, education, innovation, and research". To achieve this, Majarlin facilitates the delivery of high-quality Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health clinical placements, education, and professional support and engages in collaborative research to progress the rural health evidence base.
About the role The senior researcher is responsible for driving and leading advanced research initiatives, providing research leadership and making contributions to the department in terms of advancing the knowledge of the department, undertaking reportable research activities, developing research capacity within the region, and building research relationships with local, regional and national stakeholders to advance the reputation of the institution.
Key Responsibilities Conduct academic research and publish high quality research outputs that will contribute to building the research profile of the department in line with its objectives. Lead the departments' Research Leadership Committee, and by extension guide the strategic and operational direction of Majarlin's research direction. Be successful in securing research funding, as well as the preparation, leading and co-leading research grant proposals and applications. Foster the research of other individuals/groups within Majarlin and mentoring early to mid-career researchers. Supervise postgraduate students engaged in course work and/or major postgraduate research projects. Participate and provide leadership in community engagement and industry partnership initiatives. Lead research teams including the supervision of research-and administrative staff involved in the Majarlin's research programs. Contribute to Majarlin's teaching program in the context of their research and/or clinical expertise. Attendance at relevant internal and external meetings associated with the work of the department. Perform other duties appropriate to the classification as required. Comply with all other reasonable training and duties as identified by the line manager (or delegate). Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct. Qualifications, skills & experience Experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or contributions to technical achievement. Experience in identifying funding opportunities, preparing compelling grant proposals, and securing research funding. Ability to lead and manage large-scale research projects, including planning, executing, and overseeing research activities and timelines. Skill in supervising, mentoring, and training junior researchers, research assistants, and students. Proven capacity to contribute to the development and implementation of research strategies and priorities aligned with institutional goals. Expertise in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with academic colleagues, research institutions, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
