Senior Policy Officer – Fixed term, full time - flexible position The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner is an independent regulator established to protect the information rights of Victorians through oversight of the state's FOI, Privacy and Data Protection laws. We are currently inviting applications for the role of Senior Policy Officer in our Policy team, for a fixed term period up to 12 months.
If you have a strong commitment to integrity and want to help shape the future of information rights in Victoria, we would like to hear from you. What does OVIC's Policy team do? The Policy team has several functions, including:
· developing resources and guidance for regulated organisations
· consulting with organisations on government initiatives and legislation, and providing advice
· preparing submissions to consultations and inquiries
· preparing presentation materials for OVIC's Commissioners
What will this role involve? This position is one of three Senior Policy Officers in the Policy team. The team also comprises a Principal Policy Officer and the Assistant Commissioner – Policy. The Senior Policy Officer has a strong interest in information privacy, information management, government transparency and accountability, policy, technology, and law. The  Senior Policy Officer works across each of the team's functions and gains experience in a variety of areas. See the position description for key accountabilities and duties.
This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, research experience, strong analytical skills, and legal analysis skills.
The Senior Policy Officer works closely with other members of the Policy team, other teams across OVIC, and OVIC's Commissioners. The ability to work effectively with others is an important aspect of this role.
Security cleared position Due to the nature of OVIC's work, you must successfully gain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance following your appointment and be an Australian citizen.
