About the teamThe Department's Shared Services Hub provides payroll services under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Programme.
The Shared Services Hub is committed to delivering effective and efficient payroll services in line with Service Level Agreements negotiated with each client agency.
We currently have (5) teams within the Hub to which you may be assigned, each under the management of an Assistant Manager (Executive Level 1) and Team Leader (APS Level 6).
Working in the Hub presents a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative service delivery arrangements relating to both systems and processes - and to collaborate across the Public Sector.
The Hub utilises the Aurion HRMS.
Teamwork and effective client engagement are essential components of our service delivery, including, on occasion, in respect to the onboarding of new clients.
The opportunityThis is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering payroll to a range of client agencies with over 14,000 payslips processed fortnightly.
The team adopts a collaborative and energetic approach to service delivery and places a strong emphasis on meeting and exceeding service levels.
You will experience a wide range of key tasks within the fortnightly pay cycle, help to prioritise the workload, and contribute meaningfully to the management of your team.
Teamwork both within each payroll team and across the Hub is encouraged.

Able to work in a team environment within and across the Hub.Capacity to effectively support the Team leader to deliver quality outcomes.Experience applying more complex legislation and SOPS relating to payroll and conditions practices and procedures.Well-developed written, communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate and influence outcomes.Sound customer service skills, including using initiative and the ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.Knowledge of and adherence to information management and privacy procedures.

Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system.Strong skills in payroll systems, helpdesk systems and Microsoft Office products.Familiarity with APS values and procedures.What you will doAs a Senior Payroll Officer you will:
Support a team to complete business-as-usual (BAU) payroll transactions, queries and related correspondence.Complete more complex payroll transactions, queries, and related correspondence (including some SES and Board transaction processing).Understand and apply relevant APS legislation and terms and conditions including Enterprise Agreement policy and procedures.Provide clear, comprehensive and accurate verbal and/or written advice to stakeholders within appropriate timeframes regarding payroll matters.Monitor and support team workloads to meet deadlines and quality-assure the daily work of the team.Maintain data in the Aurion payroll system and other platforms as required, in adherence with the Department's record management and privacy policies.Supervise, guide, and support team members including through one-on-one training.Promote teamwork at all times, including across teams during busy periods.Participate in the development and application of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that underpin consistent payroll service.EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
NotesA merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles.
This vacancy is ACT - Industry House based, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered.
