Chief Health Officer Division is seeking an experienced clinical psychologist or registered psychologist with appropriate additional experience and training, with an interest in veterans' health.
The Senior Mental Health Adviser plays a critical role in ensuring the appropriate use of clinical evidence to support veterans and their families to access healthcare services within their entitlements.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years' experience as a practicing psychologist and demonstrated experience in leading a small team.
You need to possess excellent leadership and demonstrated ability to cultivate a high performing team, excellent organisational skills, ability to drive clinical governance, quality improvement and change management within the team, ability to manage competing priorities with fluctuating workloads, and demonstrated ability to support and operationalise strategic goals.
The successful candidate will have the ability to develop, analyse, interpret and provide high level strategic advice on mental health research and policy.

The key duties of the position include
Be the advice and escalation point for complex, urgent, ambiguous or sensitive requests for funding of health service.
Manage a team of Mental Health Advisers (MHAs) including establishing a positive team culture, monitoring individual workloads and availability of MHAs, performance reviews and establishing team processes.
Respond to queries from the business areas regarding incomplete or unclear medical evidence, including resolving conflicting advice from MHAs.
Oversee team compliance with DVA and Health Branch policy and procedures.
Work collaboratively within the CHO Division, health business areas and other DVA business areas to improve the quality and timeliness of clinical advice.
Provide advice to DVA Management regarding the impact of policy and procedural changes, as they relate to mental health advice processes or the wider health system.
Provide insight as to industry trends, standards of care and current clinical practise within their professional area of expertise.
Liaise with external providers in relation to complex or systemic issues using an agreed procedural framework.
Drive quality improvement, including: Coordination of ongoing education Dissemination of business updates Clinical governance and oversight.
Training, development and mentoring.
Formal Audit procedures Identification of relevant policy and procedural changes that may lead to service quality and efficiency improvement
Provide advice to Policy and Program Delivery Division (PDD) branches regarding programmatic health policy issues and complex case policy interpretation including the oversight of evidence gathering for emerging treatments.
Collaborate with the Provider Engagement Team on DVA provider education activities.
Provide assistance to the Deputy Chief Health Officer (DCHO) and the Chief Health Officer (CHO) as required.
