We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Senior Environment Manager to join our Environment and Sustainability team on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.
Play a pivotal role in leading the future of our Environment and Sustainability Strategies and enhance the airport's compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards.
The purpose of the Senior Environmental Manager is to provide strategic oversight and management to integrate our environmental and sustainability practices across our operations, and ensure we meet our legal obligations such as Airports Act 1996, Airports (Environment Protection) Regulations 1997 and associated Commonwealth and State legislation.
The Senior Environment Manager will provide strategic advice to Melbourne Airport Management and Project teams to meet its environmental obligations under the Airports (Environment Protection) Regulations 1997 and associated Commonwealth and State legislation.
The role is highly visible within the business and works closely with the planning, development and operation teams and also with the Commonwealth regulator, the Airport Environment Officer.
The role will also manage and develop staff within the Environment team.

Key responsibilities:
Develop and lead the implementation of Melbourne Airport and Launceston Airport Environment and Sustainability Strategies to promote social and environmental responsibility.
Work closely with stakeholders to ensure objectives and ongoing commitments are achieved.
Lead delivery of specialist and strategic advice on environment and heritage to high-risk projects, Major Development Plans, long term maintenance contracts and work closely with key customers and stakeholders to achieve compliance with Commonwealth and State legislation as well as achieve sustainable outcomes.
Support project teams to implement environment management systems to ensure identification and management of environmental constraints during project feasibility and design phases.
Monitor organisational environmental programs and performance to enhance the airport's compliance with relevant environmental regulations.
Provide technical advice to Environment Advisors to deliver Annual Environment Report and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) reporting requirements.
Participate in Safety and Risk Committees to provide business updates on Environment and Sustainability performance and advice on improvement as required.
Develop technical competency of internal Environmental and sustainability advisors across projects and operations.
This includes advice on development of construction and operational environment management plans, enforcing site environmental compliance requirements including inspections as required.
Provide guidance and leadership to Environment Advisors to deliver approvals and permits, negotiating practical solutions to meet compliance, and fostering a positive environmental culture.
Support and provide guidance to Sustainability/ESG analyst in ESG data collation, management, and analysis.
The successful candidate will have:
A strong knowledge and understanding of environment, sustainability and ESG matters backed with tertiary qualifications in sustainability, environmental management, science, business, or finance.
Significant experience in an environmental advisor, environmental and heritage consultant or similar role.
Experience in providing environment and heritage advice related to operational and construction management across various environmental aspects including contaminated land, groundwater and surface water assessment and management, flora and fauna, and heritage.
Experience in the development, maintenance, and application of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
Background in auditing and verification to ensure a robust EMS.
Experience establishing and implementing processes for accurate data collection, processing, analysis, and consistent reporting of Environmental data.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, contract management and negotiation skills.
