Position available in Melbourne, Sydney, HobartWe are seeking a Senior Data Analyst (APS6) to assist in investigations of potential corporate non-compliance. You will use analytics on evidence to highlight areas for exploration, undertake assessments for investigative and legal teams, and provide support to senior leaders. Ideal candidates will be excited to develop innovative solutions using large data sets to support new approaches to investigations.

Full-time or part-time hours are available. The successful applicant will be required to work part of the week out of one of the advertised office locations and may also work some of the time from home. Offers will be based on candidate performance and operational requirements.

About the team 

The Large Corporates Branch (Branch) is responsible for delivering targeted compliance and enforcement outcomes in matters involving large corporate entities. The Branch also undertakes strategic stakeholder engagement activities as part of the FWO's strategy to raise awareness and promote sustained compliance across large corporate entities.

The Data Assessment and Analytics Team supports the Branch in performing its functions through:

The analysis of large and complex time and wage datasets to provide insight into potential areas of non-compliance with workplace lawsWorking with investigators to identify data issues and potential breaches of the Fair Work ActPreparing dashboards, reports and presentations detailing the findings of analysis including evaluation of any results and recommendationsThe management of external stakeholders or service providers to provide services or assistance to the BranchWorking as a team to identify areas of innovation, including the identification of business needs and development of prototypes. Typical duties 

The duties of this role include, however are not limited to:

Utilising proven data analysis approaches to analyse multiple sources of data to support investigators and prioritise evidence reviewGenerating data-driven approaches to assist investigation strategy and overcome challenges while managing resources and priorities to achieve timely and effective outcomesSuccinctly articulating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and providing recommendations to support decision makers and inform investigation strategy.Selection criteria

Candidates will demonstrate the following job-specific criteria:

Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills including demonstrated experience using technology to analyse evidence, provide insights, draw accurate conclusions, and communicate information to support evidence-based decision-making.Programming experience using R or SQL to analyse large complex data to meet a variety of use cases, and code management using Git or DevOps approaches.Ability to exercise sound judgment, self-manage, set priorities and complete allocated tasks to the required standard, meeting outcomes and timeframes, attention to detail, and the ability to identify and escalate potential issues.The ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams or on projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including mentoring of less experienced team members.A demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, particularly non-technical stakeholders. Desirable criteria

Whilst not essential, the ideal candidate will have:

Experience using Azure, including PowerBIQualifications in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, data science, information systems, statistics, commerce, related fields or similar industry experience.Knowledge of the Fair Work Act and Australian workplace relations framework is welcomed.What our employees say about us
