Details of the offer

AFRY Management Consulting is expanding services in Australia. We are therefore looking for Senior Consultants (Australian citizens or permanent residents) interested in being part of a small but rapidly growing team. The role will be based in our Melbourne office. About the role Senior Consultants are responsible for leading complex analyses and managing project teams to support our clients in answering the commercial and strategy challenges they face. Senior Consultants will lead and define analytical approaches and draw key messages from the analysis performed by the project team and communicate these to the client through presentations and written reports. Senior Consultants will guide and monitor the work of Analysts and Consultants – as well as perform complex parts of tasks themselves – and report on progress to Project Supervisors. Senior Consultants can also play a key role in business development. Our growing Australian team specialises in all aspects of the Australian energy transition. Our projects relate to the energy sector and all aspects of the energy transition in the Australian market. Typical projects focus on power market modelling; energy technology cost analysis and projections; assessments of energy markets, policies, and regulations; developing new techniques for projecting market prices, technology adoption, and energy sector evolution; strategic and commercial advice; and market/commercial due diligence related to energy sector transactions. Primary responsibilities Manage development and execution of electricity market models used for projecting long term market dispatch and prices in the Australia power markets (e.g., National Electricity Market, South West Interconnected System) including, but not limited to, preparing schedules and budgets, guiding analysts in completing tasks, forming views on future market developments, reviewing modelling results, and introducing enhancements. Efficiently manage several small (or one large) project(s), ensuring client expectations are met, quality standards are maintained, and project profitability is delivered through effective organisation, planning and monitoring. Undertake complex quantitative and qualitative analysis and supervise the work of others doing so, ensuring that accurate and pertinent messages are drawn. Prepare proposals and other sales material and where possible, sell additional or follow-on services in current projects. Balance multiple priorities and key timelines in a typically fast-paced environment. Contribute to continual improvement and growth of our team by proactively suggesting and implementing process improvements, developing new modelling approaches, exploring new business opportunities, implementing best practices learned from prior experience, etc. Interact with client project managers and others to build trust and relationships. Write reports that convey complex information in a clear and logical way in English using both Word and Power Point, and reviewing sections of reports prepared by others. Deliver presentations which convey information clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways which ensure that understanding is verified. Utilise good communication skills to manage project teams and work well within the wider office environment. Comply with AFRY's Code of Conduct and other policies. Qualifications Senior Consultants are likely to have 5 years of experience in the energy and/or management consulting sectors. Energy sector experience in topics such as electricity and/or gas market analysis, power market modelling, management consulting, corporate strategy (or similar consulting), financial modelling of power plant projects, project finance or investments, power system planning, market/commercial due diligence and/or understanding of the Australian energy market dynamics, regulations, and policies. Experience with power market modelling (e.g., Plexos) is very beneficial, but not absolutely necessary. At least a Bachelor's degree, typically in Economics, Finance, Business, or Engineering; however we also welcome candidates from other relevant backgrounds. Coding skills, e.g. Python, MS SQL or VBA, are an advantage. Good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work well with others within a project team and wider office environment. Ability to work in a commercial environment against budgets and deadlines, being pro-active, a self-starter, and possessing a business-oriented mindset. Our offer We offer a competitive salary and a performance-related bonus scheme, in a friendly international working environment with a wide variety of interesting and challenging projects.
