About the Opportunity DCLS is seeking a full-time Senior Community Solicitor to join our General Legal Services team in Darwin, NT. In this role, you'll provide critical legal advice, assistance, and representation across various civil law matters, reflecting our commitment to social justice and community support. Reporting directly to the Principal Solicitor, you'll be instrumental in advancing rights and justice through diligent legal practice, community legal education, and law reform initiatives. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: Providing comprehensive legal advice, assistance, and representation to clients Managing and executing all facets of client legal work, including planning, record-keeping, document drafting, and data entry in strict adherence to DCLS policies Enhancing DCLS's legal practice and team members' skills, while identifying service delivery improvements Supporting community legal education by developing resources and delivering training Identifying and advocating for law reform opportunities through research, submissions, and community engagement Facilitating support for community workers, legal practitioners, and networks through educational activities Completing additional tasks as directed by the Principal Solicitor to maintain a high standard of legal service delivery To read the full position description, please click here. About You To qualify, you will need a minimum of 4 years of practising experience in direct client legal work and either hold or be eligible to hold a Current NT Legal Practising Certificate . Experience in a community-based organisation and developing/delivering community education and training will be highly regarded. Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued: Awareness and understanding of access and equity principles Capacity to provide accessible and culturally sensitive legal advice Demonstrated legal research skills Strong time management and interpersonal skills Ability to work well within a team environment and independently As our ideal candidate, you will have a passion for social justice and human rights, show initiative, and possess a "can do" attitude.
