We amplify the voices of Queenslanders - working directly with older people, community organisations, service providers, researchers, and governments at all levels to inform, advocate, and create impact.
About this Role The Senior Advocacy and Engagement Officer is a 'hands-on' role supporting older people across the state to engage in shaping COTA Queensland's policy positions and communicating our policy views to older people and the wider community. The position is based within our Seniors Peak, with a primary focus to support advocacy and engagement across a wide variety of policy topics. The topic areas include but are not limited to ageism, employment, housing, health, energy, social isolation, cost of living, digital inclusion, transport, and elder abuse.
To enable successful advocacy for seniors, this role manages communications and engagement with both older Queenslanders (through coordinating public consultations, face-to-face focus groups, surveys, policy forums) and with seniors interested groups, government and non-government organisations (coordinating and collaborating on projects and sector activities such as Seniors Month, WEAAD, Ageism Awareness Day).
The position will focus on building and strengthening engagement with COTA Queensland's online audiences, growing newsletter and social media subscribers, and facilitating ongoing communications with older people through various channels. You will build a dynamic online presence which fosters trust, interest, and involvement in seniors advocacy activities. Working closely with other key roles within COTA Queensland, you will ensure communication and engagement strategies are aligned and integrated within our organisational activities.
Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, community engagement, social sciences, or a related field.Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, stakeholder management, or public consultation roles.Demonstrated experience in organising and facilitating consultations, focus groups, and surveys.Strong communication skills with the ability to write, present and facilitate in a wide variety of contexts.Strong understanding of engagement with diverse community groups.Empathy and understanding of the wide range of issues, experiences, and views of older people, their carers, and their families.Do you believe working with COTA Queensland could be an excellent match for you?
