Seeking the most suitable applicant to perform a range of scientific, technical and related tasks within the Microbiology Laboratory using established techniques. This position covers Monday to Friday which includes some afternoon shifts and participates in rostered over time on weekends as required by the department.Participation in quality management and quality assurance activities including internal and external quality control programs.Performance of laboratory investigations and established laboratory tests as required in the Microbiology Laboratory.Key competencies (role specific criteria)You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:Demonstrated knowledge appropriate to the position with emphasis on sound ability in techniques relevant to clinical microbiology.Ability to follow instructions, and work conscientiously and accurately with minimum local supervision, with the ability to work alone.Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work alone and co-operatively in a team environment.A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and an understanding of the basis of laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs.Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.Qualifications, registrations and other requirementsBachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in microbiology or an equivalent degree qualification.Ability to read and report microbiology plate culture would be an advantage but not essential.Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed.
