About the Role - Research Manager Lead and oversee Jilya's research initiatives, focusing on Indigenous mental health, suicide prevention, and criminogenic research.Advance research and evaluation priorities in key areas, driving impactful outcomes for Indigenous communities.Collaborate closely with the Jilya Board, including Dr. Tracy Westerman AM and Dr. Sam Cooms, to develop strategies for funding and partnership opportunities.Supervise and support Jilya psychology students at various levels, from 2nd-year undergraduates to PhD candidates across Australia, in partnership with the Scholarships Manager and other staff.Guide and mentor students to ensure high-quality research output and development.Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, research grants, and other scholarly outputs to elevate Jilya's research profile.Engage with and manage relationships across Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, as well as non-profit, government, and non-government sectors.About Us: The Westerman Jilya Institute for Indigenous Mental Health Aboriginal Corporation (Jilya) is a not-for-profit organisation founded by Dr Tracy Westerman AM to address gaps in culturally informed and clinically validated approaches to improve outcomes for Indigenous peoples in Australia across the areas of mental health and suicide prevention, justice, child protection, and education.
Jilya also supports the Dr Tracy Westerman Indigenous Psychology Scholarship Program, currently supporting 55 Aboriginal psychology students across Australia.
Selection Criteria To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following essential criteria:
Psychology Degree at Masters level minimum (Non psychology applicants will not be considered)High level research leadership at a national and preferably international level including a track record of data driven peer reviewed publications.High level quantitative research skills including the use of inferential statistics, psychometric analysis, multivariate statistics. Candidate must have strong skills in the use of statistical software packages, preferably SPSS, EndNote, Excel and Word for managing descriptive and other statistics.Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors and a demonstrated understanding of the operations of a not-for-profit organisation.Strong understanding of university systems and ability to identify research grant partnership opportunities.Solid organisational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.Ability to effectively recruit and manage research staff.Be capable of supervising, supporting and mentoring psychology students at undergraduate, masters and PhD level.Strong understanding of mental health, suicide prevention and wellbeing research specific to Aboriginal people.Ability to navigate the complex interfaces with ACCHOs and communities and complex research.Demonstrated levels of cultural competence.Values and attributes that align with the vision and goals of the organisation.Prior to appointment, the successful candidate will require the following:
Registration as a psychologist with AHPRA with preference for Masters, PhD level.Current C or A class driver's license.Working with Children Check.National Police Clearance.Be able to travel as required.Be available to work outside standard business hours when required.Your application should include a detailed resume and a cover letter no more than two pages long summarising your experience against the selection criteria.
