NCIRS is seeking a dedicated, skilled Publishing Officer to join our Communications team.About this roleAs the NCIRS Publishing Officer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing public health communication by developing, refining and delivering high-quality publishing outputs across a variety of NCIRS channels.This will include copyediting and proofreading a wide range of digital content and government and technical materials, in accordance with NCIRS house style; contributing to publishing plans and schedules; curating and writing engaging content for newsletters and social media; and collaborating closely with varied stakeholders across the organisation.About you·Proven experience:Demonstrable experience in a previous editorial, publishing or communications focused role·Exceptional editorial skills:Strong copyediting and proofreading skills, with excellent knowledge of grammar and punctuation; a keen eye for detail; and the ability to maintain accuracy, stylistic consistency and clarity·Adaptability:Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work on a wide range of communications-related tasks, projects and documents (e.g. reports, technical documents, newsletters, social media)·Technical skills:Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite and ability to work with or learn other relevant software as needed·Collaborative and proactive:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and proactively across diverse program areasThis appointment will be full-time temporary until 30 June 2025, with a strong possibility of extension. The NCIRS office is located at Westmead and the Centre supports flexible working practices, including hybrid working agreements.Please refer to the position description for a more detailed explanation of accountabilities and the full list of selection criteria.What you'll be doingThe Publishing Officer supports the execution of resources/outputs and communication programs for the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS).The Publishing Officer will develop and deliver high-quality editorial- and publishing-related outputs across various channels to ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency and timeliness of NCIRS outputs across the whole organisation.This diverse role, which supports the work of the Editor and Content Manager, sits within the NCIRS Communications Team and interacts with all NCIRS program Publishing Officer will copyedit and proofread wide-ranging digital content and technical documents produced by NCIRS and its various program area teams. The position also provides editorial support to the Australian Immunisation Handbook.Additionally, the role involves the creation of new written content for various NCIRS channels, including newsletters and social Publishing Officer liaises and collaborates with a variety of internal stakeholders and contributes to publishing plans, schedules and outputs, including by proactively reviewing legacy content.About NCIRSNCIRS is the leading organisation in Australia working in research that provides expert advice to support evidence informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of the National Immunisation Program and the surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and has a growing program of work providing technical support to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney.Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:Relevant tertiary qualification in English, communications or publishing, or equivalent work experience, ora combination of both.Demonstrated editorial experience (structural editing and copy editing) and meticulous attention to detail.Experience in use of style guides.Excellent organisational skills including planning and project managementExcellent interpersonal communications skills, both written and verbal and ability to work individually orwithin a team.Demonstrated advanced computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and reference managementsoftware (e.g. EndNote)Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in publishing processesAs part of your application please address the following targeted questions:Describe your past experience in developing and editing content for publication, either within or outside the health sector. Please include any specific examples of your previous work on government, corporate and/or technical documents and your experience with digital content. Highlight how these experiences have prepared you for the Publishing Officer role.Share an example of a time when you had to create or refine engaging content under tight deadlines for various channels (e.g. newsletters, social media). How did you ensure the content was accurate, appealing and in alignment with the organisation's objectives?Collaboration is at the heart of our team and organisation. Provide an example of a situation where you successfully collaborated with multiple stakeholders on a publishing or communications project. How did you manage differing opinions or priorities to ensure a cohesive, effective and timely outcome?Detail your approach to copyediting and proofreading documents, including (where relevant) complex technical materials. How do you ensure the factual accuracy, stylistic consistency and overall quality of the content, and could you give an example of a particularly challenging project you have worked on?Describe your knowledge of general publishing and editorial practices and skills. Examples might include understanding of copyright and permissions requirements or use of Microsoft Word templates and styles, referencing systems and style guides.
