Your contributions will shape UQ's narrative, particularly in the areas of advanced technologies, minerals and energy, highlighting the role the University plays in innovation and discovery. Join us in driving the stories that matter, both locally and globally.
Key responsibilities will include:
Develop and execute proactive media strategies to enhance UQ's domestic and international reputation, aligning with the University's strategic priorities.
Research, write, and edit engaging media materials, including media releases, feature articles, and thought leadership pieces, supported by visually compelling social media assets.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, national, and international journalists, coordinating media opportunities and responding effectively to enquiries.
Monitor and evaluate media coverage, producing reports to measure the success and impact of UQ's media engagement activities.
About Marketing and Communication(M&C)M&C enhances the success of the University by providing a central marketing and communication service. The highly professional M&C team is responsible for the University's central marketing strategy, events and protocol, corporate communication and publications, media liaison, brand management, advertising and web development. M&C also liaises with executive staff, senior faculty and institute staff, marketing and communication officers in faculties, centres and administration divisions across the University.
M&C has responsibilities across the span of University campuses and operations, nationally and internationally, with staff skilled in marketing, communication, events, web development and design. About YouTertiary qualifications in communication, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline, coupled with 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
Proven track record in developing and implementing successful media engagement strategies.
Strong knowledge of the Australian media landscape, with established relationships and a demonstrated ability to pitch stories effectively to diverse outlets.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex research and technical content into engaging materials for mainstream and specialist audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, enabling effective engagement with internal stakeholders and media professionals.
Experience in managing multiple priorities and deadlines, with a proactive and results-driven approach to delivering high-quality communication outcomes.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
