The position is supported by the NHMRC.This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in chronobiology and sleep and will be supported and guided by more senior academic research staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time.Key responsibilities will include: Prepare and publish high-quality manuscripts, provide weekly progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes.Lead and develop a project/research team in line with best practice research methodologies, while managing and mentoring students/employees to create a positive scientific research culture.Participate in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.Display a work ethic expected for a researcher aspiring to a long-term career in science.Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit.This is a research focused position. At Academic level A, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range$77,324.85 - $102,945.12, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to$90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.The greater of joining the UQ community are broad: from being part of a university, to recognition of prior service with other Australian universities, up to 26 weeks of paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, and genuine career progression opportunities via the academic promotions process.About You PhD in neuroscience, chronobiology or a sleep related field.Very high level of drive and enthusiasm to address scientific questions aimed towards high-impact findings.Experience in handling mice, conducting surgical procedures in mice (e.g. stereotaxic surgery) and processing tissue samples for immunostaining.Working knowledge of chronobiological techniques and sleep EEG analysis in mice.Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and negotiate to ensure project objectives are met.Working knowledge of ethics, confidentiality, security and privacy as they relate to research samples and data.Evidence of first-author publications in reputed refereed journals.Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities?In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
