Policy Manager – Environment and Sustainability Job Title: Policy Manager – Environment and Sustainability Location: Negotiable Reporting to: Director – Policy and Strategy Job Type: Full Time About us: Representing the interests of all Australian cattle producers, Cattle Australia (CA) is the national voice for the grass-fed industry.
CA is a member organisation with a directly elected Board and Regional Consultative Committee working to protect livelihoods, the profitability, competitiveness, and future of the Australian cattle industry.
The beef industry is uniquely positioned to be part of the greater solution to Australia's climate challenges.
CA is playing its part to make sure the beef industry has a sustainable future that is profitable, productive and rewards producers for the environmental work they undertake on their properties.
Job Overview: As Policy Manager of Environment and Sustainability, you will play a key role in consultation, policy development, advocacy strategies, and the delivery of outcomes for our members.
This role necessitates a capacity to demonstrate leadership and requires extensive collaboration with members, producers, peak industry organisations, government, supply chain partners, and other representative groups.
Your position will be instrumental in advocating for industry, policy analysis and education on climate-related issues, and engagement with grassroots producers.
Key Responsibilities: Policy Development: Work with Cattle Australia's policy development structures including the Regional Consultative Committee and working groups, conceptualise, execute, and manage policy, strategy and initiatives, ensuring they align with our organisation's goals and the priorities of members and industry.
Critically analyse: Proposed policy initiatives to assess their potential impact on the industry and develop strategic responses.
Stakeholder Engagement: Actively engage with a variety of stakeholders within industry and government to develop effective and targeted policy-making processes and advocacy strategies.
Government Engagement: Serve as liaison with federal government entities on environmental issues.
Articulate industry perspectives, advocate for, and influence policy decisions for our members.
Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other cattle industry bodies to create a unified, influential voice for the industry.
Develop and maintain partnerships that bolster industry growth, sustainability, and resilience.
Strategic Advice: Provide strategic counsel to the team, Regional Consultative Committee and Board on policy matters related to environmental and sustainability.
Communication: Oversee communication pertaining to climate policy, ensuring clear, timely, and effective dissemination of information to relevant parties.
As required, represent the organisation in industry events.
Policy Monitoring: Closely monitor and analyse policy trends, changes, and advancements within industry and government to ensure policy remains relevant and effective.
Relationship Building: Engage and collaborate with team members effectively and efficiently, contributing to a great working environment and culture.
Develop and sustain relationships with key stakeholders in industry, government entities, and the broader community.
Qualifications: Hold a bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, economics, public policy or related field.
Demonstrated experience in policy development and execution, preferably within the agricultural industry.
Knowledge of the government systems and legislative processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Able to operate in a small team environment and autonomously as required.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
Strong research and analytical skills.
Passion for the agriculture sector with specific interests in the area of environmental sustainability.
Physical Requirements: An active and mobile role with some fieldwork required.
