That's good for our customers, motorists, the environment, and communities.About the Division / TeamOurHunter Valleynetwork primarily services the Hunter Valley coal chain – the world's largest thermal coal export operation – by providing an efficient and reliable rail transportation system between mines and the Port of Newcastle.We manage the movement of around 250 trains per day on our network. Around half of these being coal trains and the other half comprised of passenger services, as well as grain, general intermodal, and other bulk freight trains.About the OpportunityThe Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Rail Equipment Engineer (Mobile Plant) to join our National Plant Team in Newcastle, NSW. In this newly created, hands-on role you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our mobile plant, road rail vehicles and rolling stock assets. Your primary responsibilities will encompass engineering and technical support, performance testing, effective problem identification, investigation & resolution, change management, and more! Flexibility in location may be considered for the right candidate.Responsibilities:Investigating and resolving operational performance and maintenance reliability challenges with new and existing equipment to promote safety, cost efficiency and productivity.Coordinating and conducting operational and network interface performance tests and commissioning activities.Ensuring the compliance of new and existing mobile plant, road rail vehicles and the rolling stock (work train) fleet with WH&S, regulatory and technical performance standards.Supporting the roll-out of a multi-million dollar, 10-year strategic plant and equipment replacement plan.Developing, reviewing, and refining plant processes, standards, guidelines, and forms to enhance safety and maintenance performance.Analysing and reviewing engineering reports, calculations, and drawings for mechanical designs and modifications.Collecting, monitoring, and analysing data related to fleet operational and maintenance performance to drive improvement opportunities.Identifying and evaluating opportunities for the purchase of innovative machinery to improve plant mechanization, productivity, safety, and reduce operating costs.Leading, coaching, and mentoring plant maintenance staff to ensure team goals are met.Participating in projects and undertaking other duties as requested.About YouTo ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.Well-developed and structured approach to problem solving.Demonstrated ability to work in a team, assist and promote the team, and drive effective outcomes in a fast-changing environment.Current Class C driver's licence.Recent graduates who can demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities are encouraged to apply.Working knowledge of mobile plant related workplace health and safety regulations.Experience in major railway plant & rolling stock maintenance and operations.Knowledge of the railway operating environment and applicable engineering standards.What we offerYou will have access to a variety of benefits working with us, including but not limited to:Competitive remunerationAn uncompromising commitment to a Zero-Harm working environmentFully paid on the job training24/7 Employee Assistance Program for all employees and their direct family membersNumerous financial, lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits Including salary sacrifice option of novated leasing, discounts and support programsOur Organisation and CultureWe foster an inclusive, values led culture and embrace diversity in all forms.
