What we ask of you:
Assist in the development of Markel in Australia, with a particular focus on the launch and profitable development of Casualty. Support the development and execution of Markel's wider strategy in Australia. Deliver strong profitable growth in Casualty, as well as other classes, over the market cycle. Build and develop strong relationships with new and existing brokers, other distribution partners and clients, and become established as a market leader for Casualty underwriting in Australia. Maintain and regularly update a broker/customer engagement plan for a portfolio of brokers and use this to drive quote requests and conversion. Manage a portfolio of risks (including the underwriting of new risks), understand the principles of technical rating engines and monitor portfolio rate adequacy according to Markel's underwriting principles in line with authority limits. Use analytical skills to enhance Markel's underwriting capabilities (e.g. loss performance and underwriting efficiency), support the analysis of portfolio data and act upon those findings. Navigate the complexities of drafting/amending a wording/clause. Contribute to the business planning process for the Casualty portfolio in Australia as well as support the planning process for wider product lines of Markel in New South Wales. Build and maintain strong working relationships within Markel, particularly with London and Asia Casualty teams. Support the research, development and delivery of new initiatives in Australia, alongside the Managing Director – Australia, Australian product leads, Strategy & Development and Underwriting teams. Promote self and team members externally as thought leaders/class experts. Develop fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to support the achievement of goals and the development of Markel in Australia. What you will bring to the role:
The successful candidate will:
Have 10 or more years of Casualty Underwriting experience. Show a track record of successfully building a Casualty portfolio including experience of cross selling with other lines of business/products. Be confident to work remotely from their manager, displaying independent productivity, initiative and leadership qualities.
