Seeking the best suited applicant to join our hard-working health Professionals within the discipline of genomics. The primary purpose of the position is to supervise, co-ordinate and maintain all activities for Clinical Assistants in the Genomics discipline in conjunction with PCR Suite Manager, Supervising Scientists in Genomics and the Principal Chief Scientist, Genomics. With great communication and a lead by example persona you will ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the Genomics department, contributing to the overall success of genomic research and diagnostics.
Proactively and dynamically manage and prioritise workload for clinical assistants across the Genomics Discipline including times with reduced staffing levels.
Maintain and apply specialist knowledge, skills and experience and provide specialist support and advice regarding complex resource and operational issues relating to service provision, as required.
Key competencies (role specific criteria) You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes. Within the context of the responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures and processes together with a sound knowledge of laboratory operations in a diagnostic laboratory, preferably in human genomics. Knowledge of pathology information systems and demonstrated data entry skills. Demonstrated ability to positively lead, supervise, co-ordinate, mentor and train staff to provide an efficient pre analytical service within the Genomics Discipline. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work within a team structure and to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Demonstrated focus upon professional development of self and team members. A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and a contemporary knowledge of NATA/ISO accreditation/certification. Knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of, procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position, in particular the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, and a knowledge of contemporaryhuman resources management issues such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination. Qualifications, registrations and other requirements Whilst there is no mandatory qualification, a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques is considered highly desirable. Proficiency in all aspects of laboratory operations is required. In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
