Incremental salary progression, starting from $86,253 for new educators and from $102,969 to $121,07 for experienced educators, rewarding you for your expertise and dedication to teaching. Up to $12K relocation reimbursement for interstate/international teachers. The ACT Education Directorate seeks passionate and qualified Inclusive and Disability educators for Primary and Secondary roles across a range of local and specialist schools. This year the ACT Government launched Inclusive Education: A Disability Inclusion Strategy for ACT Public Schools 2024-2034. The strategy aims to deliver greater inclusion for students with disability across all ACT public schools by making sure schools have the support they need to meet the needs of all learners.
ACT public school settings In ACT public schools, you can use your expertise to teach across both primary and secondary settings. We have permanent and contract positions across all our schools from preschool to year 6 primary schools, year 7-10 high schools, larger preschool to year 10 schools, in colleges teaching years 11 and 12.
All students with disability and diverse learning needs are welcome to attend their local school, where they will be supported with reasonable adjustments. ACT public schools have access to the Education Directorate's Allied Health Service, School Psychology Service, and evidence-based professional learning.
The ACT public education system also includes four specialist schools for students with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disability: Cranleigh (Preschool to year 6) and Black Mountain School (years 7-12) on Canberra's northside and Malkara (preschool to year 6) and The Woden School (years 7-12) on the southside.
About you: You have relevant and recognised tertiary qualifications. Have a passion for teaching and education and support a student-centred approach to learning. Have inclusive and disability expertise and the ability to teach across a broad age and ability range. Can demonstrate knowledge and successful application of the Australian Curriculum and/or The Early Years Learning Framework and/or Abilities Based Learning & Education Support (ABLES). Have positive classroom management skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Proven experience establishing and fostering relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers. Are committed to supporting the wellbeing of students. Eligibility requirements for employment To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must:
Education qualifications – Have an approved four-year full-time tertiary education qualification. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) to confirm qualification requirements and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools. Detailed information is available from the AITSL website. Teacher registration – Hold a valid approval to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). If you do not hold a teacher registration with the ACT TQI, we suggest starting your application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity. Teachers holding registration in another Australian state or territory or New Zealand are eligible for mutual recognition. Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration – Have a valid ACT WWVP. If you don't, we suggest starting your application process at the same time. Approved working status – Be an Australian citizen and/or be a permanent resident and/or hold a valid working visa.
