One ongoing vacancy is available working in Katherine and Palmerston
Your key duties will include:
Monitoring the Territory's surface water resources. Conducting hydrological modelling and investigation. Developing your career in Water Resources. Apply your professional experience in hydrological assessment to maintain the quality of the Territory's water resources.
The Department of Environment Parks and Water Security's Water Resource Division is responsible for administering the regulatory framework to manage the Northern Territory's water resources and to support the Controller of Water Resources in performing their statutory functions.
As a Hydrologist (P2), your primary objective is to provide hydrological assessment and input into programs, projects, plans, data management, science communications, and engagement to optimise outcomes to deliver the strategic objectives and priorities of the Northern Territory Government.
Your key duties will include undertaking surface water resources assessments and reporting, ensuring consistency with standards for data and statistical analyses, flood forecasting and flood management, and hydrological modelling. You will apply your specialist knowledge and experience to review and provide technical advice regarding surface water resources, critically assess and revise water monitoring programs, and manage risk assessment of flood studies.
As a Senior Hydrologist (P3), your duties are similar to the P2 but at a more specialist level. Your expert technical knowledge and experience in hydrological/hydraulic models will allow you to develop proposals that impact water quality and ecological health of water-dependent ecosystems.
Both levels require you to have completed a degree in Hydrology, Science, or hold a similar tertiary qualification, have demonstrated experience in hydrological investigations and surface water assessment, and proficiency in the use of data management processes and spatial tools for analysis. A current C class driver's licence and the ability to undertake fieldwork in remote areas for extended periods is essential.

This is a great time to consider a move to the Territory. Enjoy an enviable laidback lifestyle in a relaxed tropical regional city by nominating either Palmerston or Katherine as your preferred location.
Palmerston is close to stunning national parks, waterholes, and beaches and is a great base from which to explore the Territory and learn about its history and strong First Nations cultures. With a relatively small cultural sector undertaking innovative and community-focused work, Palmerston is a great place to fast track your career and provides unrivalled opportunities to deliver meaningful engagement opportunities to diverse communities.
Katherine is the fourth-largest town in the Territory with over 11,000 residents and provides access to some of the Territory's amazing attractions; including a National Park with 13 impressive gorges carved from the ancient sandstone, thermal springs, stunning landscapes, and a long and rich culture and Aboriginal history.
Applications will be assessed at both levels, and successful applicants will be awarded employment based on demonstrated skills and experience.
