Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water – Kingston TAS
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
As the primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals are to:
maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it protect the Antarctic environment understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.
The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The Hydrographic Data Officer would be responsible for coordinating hydrographic survey work within the AAD, ensuring that data collections are appropriately maintained and provided to partner organisations such as the Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) and Geoscience Australia (GA)/AusSeabed.
The Hydrographic Data Coordinator would link with Defence through the Defence Science and Technology Group, Operation Southern Discovery, the Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation, Navy, and the AHO.

Key responsibilities include:
Developing and maintaining external relationships with other government agencies, academia, and industry.
Developing plans and objectives for short-term tasks of the work area and contributing to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives for hydrographic survey work.
Ensuring hydrographic data collections are appropriately maintained and provided to partner organisations such as the Australian Hydrographic Office and Geoscience Australia/AusSeabed.
Coordinating hydrographic surveying work within the Division, including data requests, Service Level Agreements, permits, and liaising with the shipping, scientists, and oceanographic systems teams.
Developing an understanding of hydrographic surveying principles including the role of datums, tide gauges, and echo sounders.
Administering Australia's Antarctic network of tide gauges, including coordinating installation and managing data collection.
