This role plays a critical role in the management of healthcare data and information.
They are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of patient health information in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
The North West Health Information Manager will be based with and supported by the State Health Information Management and Clinical Coding team in the Department of Health.
Key Areas Managed by the Health Information Manager (HIM): Health Information Management Medical Records Clinical Coding Information Access Medical Typing Key responsibilities include:
Develop, implement, maintain, and review strategies to manage and continually improve the administrative support function of the Medical Records Department while meeting the objectives of organisational requirements. Coordinate and manage the obligations and provisions of high-quality Right to Information and Information Privacy (RTI/IP) legislation, Administrative Access policy, Personal Injuries Proceedings Act within the NWHHS. Provision of education to clinicians to improve clinical documentation and coding quality, including education on Activity Based Funding (ABF) and Weighted Activity Unit (WAU) optimisation by improved documentation. Collaborating with relevant Queensland Health and external personnel to ensure the volume, type, quality, and complexity of patient care is accurately documented and reported to support funding for the NWHHS.
This includes monitoring and auditing coding of Hospital Acquired Complications (HACs) and Sub and Non-Acute Patients (SNAP). Financial benefits:
Base salary ranges between $132,072 to $141,738 p.a.
(PO5).
4 weeks p.a.
recreational leave with 17.5% loading.

Position location:
Based with and supported by the State HIM and Clinical Coding team in Brisbane CBD, with negotiated fly-in-fly out arrangement to Mount Isa Hospital.
Service delivery may require this role to work across other locations within the North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS).
Role Requirements Qualification: Possession of a qualification in Bachelor of Health Science (Health Information Management) from a registered tertiary institution or equivalent is mandatory for this position.
Desirable Qualifications: While not mandatory, a relevant coding qualification noted below would be well regarded:
Intermediate ICD-10-AM, ACHI & ACS Clinical Coding Course (HIMAA) Advanced ICD-10-AM, ACHI & ACS Clinical Coding Course (HIMAA) Clinical Coder Certification (HIMAA) Certificate of External and Internal Clinical Coding Auditing (La Trobe University Australia) Membership: Eligibility for membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) is mandatory for appointment to this position.
Licence: Must possess a licence to operate a class C motor vehicle.

VPD risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Tuberculosis.
A 6-month period of probation may apply.
