Senior Recruitment Consultant at Hays | Public Sector Technical Hays are partnering with a Local Government who are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join their Regulatory Services team on a permanent basis.

The role:
The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for providing high quality environmental and public health services across the community.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
Conduct regular inspections, surveillance, auditing, and licencing of food businesses, including temporary food stalls.
Investigate and resolve complaints or reports of nuisances, issue notices and infringements as necessary, and document outcomes.
Address noise complaints, enforce regulatory requirements, and manage environmental or event noise control, including after-hours noise monitoring when required.
Perform pest control inspections, provide advice, make recommendations, and issue directions.
Process applications for septic tanks, ATUs, and grey water systems, conduct site assessments, and enforce regulatory requirements.
Handle settlement enquiries related to private and business premises, ensuring compliance with environmental health matters such as decommissioning septic tank systems.
Promote and raise awareness within the community on environmental and public health issues.
Uphold ethical decision-making and good governance in line with the Council's Code of Conduct, values, policies, procedures, and broader aspirations.
Engage in sustainability initiatives and proactively suggest improvements for recycling, energy, and water consumption in Council operations, supporting the client's policy and Strategic Community Plan.
Ensure personal and others' safety and health, comply with safety instructions, and cooperate with management to fulfil legislative obligations in line with client policy.
To be successful:
Demonstrated knowledge of Statutory provisions relating to environmental and public health.
3+ years of experience working as an Environmental Health Officer.
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health.
Must be an Authorized Person and Inspector under the Environmental Protection Act.
Policy and program development experience with strong research and evaluation skills.
