Gis Analyst - Contract

A leading government department is seeking a talented and experienced GIS Specialist/Analyst to join their Business Information Systems (BIS) Team. This critical role supports the continuous improvement of core platforms, enabling effective decision-making and response capability across a wide range of functional areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert GIS services across all program areas, both proactively and reactively. Enhance the visualisation of data using maps and related reports to increase the impact of the department's data. Improve management of source data within internal systems, enabling quicker, easier mapping. Regularly update and refine maps to meet the current needs of various program areas. Develop GIS best practices, including standardising tools, techniques, and data management frameworks. Collaborate with service providers and business areas on licensing, platforms, and technology use. Provide critical GIS services during emergencies, incident responses, and exercises. Contribute GIS expertise to internal, national, and state-level projects and activities. Essential Skills & Experience:
3+ years of experience with the ESRI suite of products. Demonstrated strategic and operational spatial information experience. Experience in managing and organising large spatial data sets with a strong focus on data integrity and quality control. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to work in geographically distributed, public sector environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Highly Desirable:
Experience in scientific, emergency response, or disaster recovery organisations. Experience developing custom GIS applications and tools. Ability to provide training and technical support for GIS users. Experience with Open Layer, GeoJSON, and/or WKT formats.
