It was formally organised in the U.S. 2020 by and for stakeholders across the agricultural value chain—from farmland owners to companies and communities. Leading Harvest launched in Australia in March of 2023 after two years of piloting its programming. Currently 1.2M hectares are enrolled in its program globally, with 540,000 hectares in Australia. The Leading Harvest standard provides a framework to help farmers and farm managers methodically tackle agricultural sustainability and make verifiable claims to the market while strengthening credibility, reputation, and social license to operate. In addition to farmers and managers, Leading Harvest works with companies in the supply chain, like Nutrien Ag Solutions, Deere, Cargill, and Nestlé USA to advance responsible, sustainable, and regenerative sourcing objectives. The Role Reporting to the President & CEO, the General Manager, Australia will manage the Leading Harvest Australia business, lead business development, programmatic expansion, and serve as relationship manager for the membership in Australia. The General Manager will work collaboratively with the Leading Harvest team globally, Regional Advisory Board, and President & CEO to help grow the program and awareness of Leading Harvest in Australia. The General Manager will have full responsibility for program success in Australia and will work very closely with the global President & CEO to ensure program activity alignment globally. Key Roles and Responsibilities Business development across the region, including growing the base of producers, farm business, and management companies that certify to the Leading Harvest program. Increase recognition and adoption of Leading Harvest in the supply chain with agribusiness companies, food retailers, banks, and insurers to position Leading Harvest as the primary certification for sustainable agriculture. Oversee regional finances and ensure appropriate allocation of resources and expenses based on projected revenues. Manage service provider contract relationships, including legal, accounting, banking, and other consultants. Cultivate philanthropic opportunities. Identify and expand scope of Leading Harvest programming, as appropriate, especially to further the educational aspects of the program. Collaborate with Leading Harvest global standard and education team to further global objectives related to education content. Regularly engage with and support existing members of Leading Harvest. Develop and manage a Regional Advisory Board to further advance Leading Harvest in Australia. About You This role will suit a true self-starter with a passion to drive sustainability outcomes in agriculture. You have an understanding of sustainability certification schemes and reporting frameworks, as well as proven business development and relationship management skills. You are able to connect and foster relationships with all stakeholders across the agricultural value chain—from farmland owners to business executives to communities. With an innovative mindset, you have a strong ability to work as a team and develop and execute independently. Required Skills and Proficiencies Relevant industry experience in complex multi-faceted stakeholder environments. Tertiary qualifications in sustainability or significant exposure to the field. Demonstrated strong track-record in business management, business development, and program management. Evidence of building strong partnerships and relationship management. Knowledge and/or lived experience of agriculture communities and understanding of the nuances and complexities in the industry. Self-starter with strong executive function who thrives in an environment that requires effective prioritisation of projects. Highly adaptive and willing to navigate ambiguity. Exceptional oral and written communicator, with an adaptable ability to engage in all forums (local farm level, corporate level, at public meetings, etc.) in a constructive manner. Excellent emotional intelligence competencies, including relationship management. Must retain situational awareness while tracking initiatives related to sustainability. Insightful and consultive, providing practical and pragmatic solutions that are actionable.
