Exotic Animal Keeper  Zoodoo Zoo, Hobart, Tasmania Zoodoo Zoo, located just outside Hobart in beautiful Tasmania, is looking for an experienced Exotic Animal Keeper to join our dedicated team.

We are offering for the first 3 months of employment accommodation offsite, a moving allowance and use of a car for the successful applicant. About the Role: As an Exotic Animal Keeper, you will be responsible for the care, welfare, and enrichment of a diverse range of animals, with a particular focus on our big cats and other exotic species. You'll work alongside a team of passionate professionals to ensure the highest standards of animal care while engaging with our visitors to share knowledge about wildlife and conservation.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain records, preparing and feeding prescribed diets, monitoring diet consumption, and reporting any health or behavioral abnormalities of all assigned animals. Report these observations daily to your immediate supervisor.Advise staff on nutritional concerns or seasonal adjustments as necessary.Assist veterinary staff in health monitoring and assessments and perform SOPs related to specialty areas or programs, such as venomous animal and large reptile handling.Manage components of the captive reproduction program as assigned.Carry out behavioral enrichment activities and animal training procedures in a timely manner, ensuring they are consistent with documented SOPs. Assist in the development and implementation of SOPs within your assigned area and help train new staff in these procedures.Perform routine facility maintenance, reporting any structural or mechanical issues and providing support in the development of facility plans and assessments. Interact with maintenance staff as required.Respond to animal emergencies according to approved protocols.Participate in non-routine health and husbandry activities, including animal transports, introductions, breeding, restraint and treatment of animals, and the medication of specimens as assigned.Ensure the safety of both visitors and animals by monitoring the public and responding to any safety concerns.Collaborate with other staff and departments to support public experiences and communication activities, including participating in Special Events, Group Services, Marketing, and PR events when necessary.Actively engage with guests in support of the Zoo's mission by developing and conducting interactive animal programs.What We Offer: We want to make your transition as smooth as possible, which is why we offer a range of benefits to support you in your new role:

Minimum 2 years of paid experience in a zoo. Working with exotic animals (experience with lions).A genuine passion for wildlife and animal welfare.Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with the public and fellow team members.A positive, hardworking attitude with the flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as required.Formal qualifications in zoology, wildlife management, or a related field would be a plus.A current Firearms License.Thank you for taking the time to apply for the position.
