Katherine Town Council is the Municipal Council for Katherine, NT. Providing services to the Katherine Community relating to rates, roads, infrastructure, animal control, waste management and other core essential services.
At the heart of the Big Rivers region is Katherine, the fourth largest township in the Northern Territory. Outside of Darwin and Palmerston Local Government Areas, Katherine is the next major regional centre closest to the Port of Darwin; the only major multimodal port located in Northern Australia and Australia's gateway to the Asia Pacific.
Katherine is located at a critical crossroads point for Northern Australia and the top end, connecting Perth to Darwin from the west and Adelaide to Darwin through the north/south highway and rail corridor. Katherine services the wider region with access to education and medical services.
Around 8,000 people live in the Katherine municipality. The local RAAF Airbase at the Katherine suburb of Tindal adds around 2,000 to this figure making it over 10,000 people living and working in Katherine.

This position reports directly to the Director of Community Services and is responsible for the high quality, intelligent and reliable execution of Council's functions, events, programs and community initiatives. This position is responsible for planning, preparing, executing and reviewing necessary components of Council's functions, events, programs and community initiatives in an efficient and effective manner whereby there is successful cross department collaboration, consultation and continued teamwork.

Position's Key Responsibilities 1. Develop and lead the execution of an annual events calendar which maximises the effectiveness of
2. Strategically engage with external stakeholders and invested parties, communicate across various
platforms and stakeholders with regards to the planning, preparation and promotion of events
3. Drive the coordination and delivery of all aspects of high-quality events which meet organisational
needs (e.g. prepare and manage events budgets, negotiate contracts for venues, catering, audio visual equipment, signage, on-site production and post-event details)
4. Work collaboratively with Communications team to manage Council's events and the preparation and
production of promotional material.
5. Research, liaise and undertake new events that are relevant and engaging to the Katherine
Municipality, targeting specific demographics and working groups to achieve successful outcomes
6. Managing and overseeing events on the day of, including problem-solving, welcoming, and directing
guests and support staff, directing event set-up, communicating with staff, and organising vendors
7. Coordinate and implement the marketing of functions and events held within the Katherine
Municipality by utilising a variety of marketing tools with an aim to maximise opportunities for Council
to promote and enhance community participation and engagement
8. Actively develop and implement integrated resources for any/all functions and events for Council in
order to improve and enhance community engagement and participation, understanding and
awareness of the role and activities of the Katherine Town Council
9. Ensure compliance to any and all legislative, statutory requirements and safety standards when
executing plans and preparations
10. Assist in the creation of various content types to engage with the community event services on various
platforms, translating ideas and concepts into proactive campaigns and engaging content that
supports Council's objectives.
11. Undertake general customer service duties up to and including front-desk reception duties such as
answering telephone calls, emails, customer enquiries, and other matters as needed to achieve
effective customer service outcomes
12. Work cross-collaboratively with other departments to research, plan, prepare and execute Council's
events in an effective and efficient manner, provide best practice advice and guidance
13. Other responsibilities as shall be reasonably associated with or incidental to the above
responsibilities or as shall, in the course of the employment, be agreed between the parties as being
or forming part of the duties
Organisational Responsibilities 1. Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements. Comply with workplace
procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control. Participate in activities
associated with the management of workplace health and safety. Identify and report health and
safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, property damage and mishaps at the workplace.
2. Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council's Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the
event of a disaster.
3. Ensure incumbent is dedicated to servicing our community and will listen to and proactively respond
to their needs.
4. Foster sustainable, honest relationships with the community and stakeholders

, leadership and on-the-job training to supervised employees or groups of employees.
Judgement & Problem Solving Skills to solve problems which require assessment of a range of options having elements
of complexity in reaching decisions and making recommendations. For supervisors, the
work processes often requires the quantification of the amount of resources needed to
meet those objectives. Assistance may be readily available from other staff in the work
area in solving problems
Specialist Knowledge & Skills Specialist knowledge in a number of advanced skill areas relating to the more complex
elements of post-trades or specialist disciplines either through formal training programs
or on-the-job training.
Management Skills May require skills in co-ordinating a team of employees, to motivate and monitor

the 'work face'.
Interpersonal Skills Persuasive communication skills are required to participate in specialised discussions to

Qualifications & Experience Positions require thorough working knowledge and experience of all work procedures for
the application of technical, trades or administrative skills, based upon suitable
certificate or post-certificate level qualifications which may include:(a) post-trade
certificate and/or other post-secondary qualification below diploma or degree;
or(b) extensive knowledge and skill gained through on-the-job training in accordance
with the requirements of the work in this level
