As we're seeing significant growth in our projects value and pipeline, we've got exciting new opportunities for Environmental Scientists / Engineers to join our growing team in Townsville.
Working closely with two senior leaders, you will be working across the water, energy, mining and defence sectors.
The role will be based in our Townsville office with the option to work from home 2 days per week when not required on site.WSP has one of the largest Contaminated Site teams in Australia.

We put well-being, technical excellence, and innovation at the forefront of everything we do.Your work will include the full life cycle of contaminated site assessments across a range of projects including:Property transaction due diligence assessments (Stage 1s)Environmental Site Assessments and Detailed Site Investigations (Stage 2s)Legacy industrial sitesDecommissioning programs on large upstream oil and gas sites (Fuel terminals)Transport infrastructure projects including rail, road and portsDownstream oil and gas sites (Service stations)Mine sites (Coal, copper, bauxite and other commodities)Defence projects including delivery of PFAS monitoring and remediation programsWhat you'll do:Conduct interesting environmental field works (e.g.
drilling, hydrogeological testing, site validation, remediation supervision, monitoring) with varied considerations for safety and intricate geology/hydrogeologyCollect environmental samples of soil, surface water, sediment, groundwater, soil vapour, ambient air and landfill gas, etc.Interrogate large datasets, develop conceptual site models and prepare detailed and concise field notesDraft technical assessment reports and recommendationsOversee contractors and take responsibility for safe, compliant and quality field works programsApply legislation, standards, guidelines, and project specificationsPrepare compelling proposals and lead projects to meet budget and strategic goalsBuild strong relationships with colleagues and clientsGuide, mentor, and inspire a team of junior consultants to reach their highest potentialContribute to a culture of teamwork, innovation, collaboration, and passion, promoting trust and unity among team membersCollaborate with the national team to execute initiatives locallyManagement of your own small to medium scale projectsContribute to market action plans for targeted clientsUphold a strong safety culture and champion safety initiativesAbout you:You're likely to have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, and you're enthusiastic, reliable and great at building collaborative working relationships.
You will also bring:Experience in managing small to medium contaminated-site projectsKnowledge of soil contaminants, site sampling techniques, investigation methodologies and remediation technologies for groundwater, soil and gasUnderstanding of QLD regulations pertaining to the management of contaminated sitesA current full Australian Driver's LicenceAbility to meet Defence clearance requirements as an Australian Citizen or permanent residentYou're likely to have tertiary education in earth sciences/agriculture or environmental science/engineeringSome experience in business development, proposal writing, and delivering exceptional client outcomes and cost-effective solutions.About WSP:WSP is one of the world's leading engineering professional services firms, bringing together approximately 6,000 talented people across 15 offices in Australia.
