About Laing O'Rourke Laing O'Rourke is a $6 billion international operation with 70 years of involvement in Australian construction and infrastructure, including nearly two decades under the Laing O'Rourke banner.The business delivers projects as diverse as the environments in which they are built, from high security military bases and major rail transport infrastructure projects, through to landmark buildings at the transport interface.Laing O'Rourke owns one of Australia's largest plant and equipment hire company called Select Plant Australia.We know the right culture combined with purposeful technology will help us meet demand and deliver certainty for our clients.That's the #powerofexperience.About the role We are currently seeking an environmental advisor to join our rail operations hub based in Sydney/ Hunter Rail Operations is an internal business unit within Laing O'Rourke, specialising in the sole delivery of all aspects of Rail, working with a team of technical experts to deliver a high portfolio of work across New South Wales.Key responsibilities Support the Sustainability & Environment Leader to ensure that the NSW project Portfolio  correctly implements the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and complies with legislative and contractual environmental obligations.Support rail crews with site assessments, planning for management and assurance activities coupled with some site visits ahead of possessions work.Assisting with the preparation of reports and providing this feedback at construction meetings Reporting of events, actions and tracking metrics in Impact and other project tools Assisting with reporting on the progress of environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives Championing sustainability initiatives as Laing O'Rourke seeks to deliver its sustainability strategy including our initial 2030 operational Net Zero target.Monitoring the progress of environmental and sustainability targets and ensure that any required actions are initiated Undertaking site inspections, issue corrective actions and track closure About you A tertiary qualification in Environment related studies (BEnvSc, BEnvMan, BSc, BEnvEng MSc.)coupled with 1-2 years post grad rail/infrastructure experience.Experience dealing with environmental, and industry based governing bodies.Required to keep abreast of environmental legislation, compliance and reporting requirements.Show a level of commercial awareness and an understanding of business, with a good understanding of project delivery processes beyond enviro.Will be required to be based out of our Seven Hills Depot or Maitland (Hunter Region) office.Must be able to commute between the two.The commute won't be on a weekly basis,  but should be frequent and can be planned to meet business needs.We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and engage with project teams, with a focus on finding performance improvements championing sustainability initiatives as we look at our Net Zero journey.Benefits We work hard to create an environment that brings out the best in our people.We believe in building careers through providing a safe, connected and innovative culture that supports ongoing growth and development.We offer industry-leading benefits such as specialised learning and development programs, a mental health and wellbeing program, industry leading paid parental leave policy, an additional purchased leave option and coaching programs for staff on parental leave.Diversity & Inclusion We are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse society in which we live and work.Laing O'Rourke is proud to hold the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Citation - Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.Laing O'Rourke actively supports a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.Download our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan at https://www.laingorourke.com/company/diversity-and-inclusion Applications from recruitment agencies will not be considered.
