BI Technical Lead - Core Modernisation Reserve Bank of Australia Sydney, Australia Impactful work that helps make a difference to the Australian people.

More sense, less common The Reserve Bank of Australia is embarking on a Core Modernisation program which involves a major upgrade of core technology infrastructure.
This program is a technology driven program to consolidate, migrate and/or replace core infrastructure components across our data centres.
It requires Bank-wide involvement to discovery, migration and/or uplift of business applications/services and IT infrastructure, including database, servers, network components.
We are seeking an experienced BI Technical Lead to join our dynamic data team on a significant program of work.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data modelling, data architecture, and the design of scalable, high-performance data solutions.
In this role, you will lead efforts to design and optimize data structures, build complex data models, and ensure the integrity and quality of data across multiple systems.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to ensure that data solutions meet organizational needs.
Your skills in data design/modelling, database design and administration, and data preparation for visualisation using MS SQL, Power BI DAX and Cloudera data flow would be highly desirable.
You will also possess advanced technical expertise in database management, optimization, and troubleshooting to contribute to the implementation of database solutions for enterprise-level applications and infrastructure migration.
Objectives Migrate business applications/services from the Bank's legacy data centres to the target state environments, ensuring security, availability, reliability, scalability, and long-term operational sustainability, while mitigating risks from core infrastructure obsolescence and strengthening the resilience of mission-critical systems.
Provide technical leadership, design and implementation for the data discovery, integration, modelling, transformation, visualisation, and database management activities.
Undertake the more complex design, programming and problem resolution tasks and ensure that systems and reports are tested for quality assurance.
Work with key business and technology stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered data solutions, end to end, that meet best practice standards and guidelines.
Lead relevant research including the feasibility/impact evaluation of data sets, tools, and approaches to enable business objectives.
Technical Capabilities Lead the design and development of logical and physical data models to support business requirements and data integration strategies.
Create detailed data models, including entity-relationship diagrams (ERD), dimensional models, and data flow diagrams.
Develop and maintain data architecture standards and frameworks to ensure consistency and scalability across the organization's data platforms.
Collaborate with data engineers and architects to implement best practices in data design.
Design and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring data from various sources (e.g., operational systems, third-party APIs, cloud platforms) is transformed and integrated accurately for reporting and analytics.
Work on optimizing large-scale databases and ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval.
Perform database tuning and query optimization to support high-performance applications and analytics.
Work closely with business analysts, product teams, and data engineers to understand data requirements and design models that align with business goals.
Advocate for data governance best practices and ensure adherence to data quality standards.
Define data quality rules, develop data validation procedures, and ensure consistency and integrity across different data systems.
Implement and monitor data governance policies to ensure data is accessible, accurate, and secure.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, architecture, and design decisions.
Create and update data dictionaries, standards, and guidelines for other teams to follow.
Provide guidance and mentorship to data engineers and analysts.
Lead design reviews and ensure the team adheres to best practices in data modelling and design.
Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in data modelling and data management.
Continuously explore opportunities for improvements and efficiencies in data design and architecture.
