The Director of Strategic Partnerships has responsibility for leading and developing a geographically dispersed team which develops and implements strategic partnering frameworks to facilitate Defence's science and technology engagement with universities, industry, research agencies and other entities in the innovation system. The role will foster cultural change and will establish close working relationships with numerous internal and external stakeholders across Defence and the innovation system. Specifically, the role will:Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team with expertise in partnerships and collaboration.Provide strategic direction, clear and consistent communication, manage performance and develop people.Lead the development and implementation of strategic frameworks to support the development of partnerships and collaboration across Defence Science and Technology and Defence more broadly.Coordinate the provision of highly complex briefing material, reports, correspondence and advice to a range of Stakeholders including Ministers and Defence senior executives.Manage allocated resources, set work area priorities, workflows, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes.About our TeamStrategic Partnerships is a Directorate within Partnerships branch which consists of the Directorates of Partnership Development, Strategic Partnerships, Partnership Security, Research Contracts & Agreements and Science Translation.Science Strategic Planning and Engagement Division is responsible for the planning and oversight of DSTGs research program, including developing the strategic direction, capability planning and external engagement. Science Partnerships works to enhance Defence impact by collaborating with research and industry partners, nationally and globally.The Strategic Partnerships Directorate consists of a geographically dispersed team with extensive experience in developing and implementing collaborative arrangements between organisations in a science and technology environment. The Strategic Partnerships team is extensively networked with other teams across DSTG, Defence and the national innovation system.Our Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners at all levels within a science and technology research environment. The person will be able to earn the trust of a range of internal and external stakeholders by demonstrating passion, commitment and understanding of the complexities and operating challenges of stakeholders.Specifically:The role requires an innovative and self-motivated person with exceptional influencing, communication representational and relationship management skills and the initiative to make a difference.High level strategic thinking and planning skills and experience in leading and managing significant change agendas, with highly qualified and experienced people.Extensive knowledge of research and collaboration frameworks, legislative frameworks and an understanding of government decision-making processes and policies of relevance to Defence Science and Technology Strategy.The person must have a very strong understanding of the Australian innovation system and an awareness of collaboration challenges between industry, universities and government agencies.Experience in negotiating a wide range of collaboration and research arrangements across organisational boundaries.The person will be adaptable to change, have strong leadership and people skills, and a demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with key senior stakeholders in Defence Science, Government and the Australian innovation system.Application Closing Date: Thursday 13 June, 2024The primary role of Defence is to defend Australia against armed attack.Australia's defence policy is founded on the principle of self-reliance in the direct defence of Australia, but with a capacity to do more where there are shared interests with partners and allies.Strategic DirectionThe Defence White Paper was released on 25 February 2016 together with an Integrated Investment Program and Defence Industry Policy Statement.Defence White Papers are the Government's most important guidance about Australia's long-term defence capability.
