About the Role:
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) is seeking a Director to lead the Environment Policy and Standards team in shaping Australia's response to emerging environmental protection issues in the maritime sector.
About the Team:
The Environment Policy and Standards team is responsible for protecting the marine environment from the impacts of shipping.
The team works at international and domestic levels to develop and implement policies and regulations to prevent pollution and promote safe vessel operations.
About the Job:
The Director Policy and Regulatory will be responsible for:
Formulating, examining, and evaluating policy and making recommendations on policy issues related to international maritime conventions and their implementation in Australia.Leading a small team to identify and pursue engagement opportunities, both internationally and domestically, to inform Australia's position on existing and emerging maritime issues.Providing recommendations on how Australia should respond to these issues.Key Responsibilities:
Develop and administer policy, legislation, and international conventions related to maritime environment protection.Work in a fast-paced environment to deliver results to a high standard in a timely manner.Undertake research and analysis to develop policy and regulatory options or advice.Engage effectively with stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, and international organizations.Requirements:
Demonstrated ability at a senior level to understand, develop, and administer policy, legislation, and international conventions.Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent work experience, preferably in a policy or regulatory role at a senior level.Strong communication, policy, and regulatory skills.About AMSA:
