With over 300 passionate employees and 500 volunteers, internal communications are essential to delivering our purpose. This role will help ensure our entire Beacon Community Services team of staff and volunteers is aware of the great work happening across the organization.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications will lead and manage all communications efforts for Beacon Community Services. This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that enhance Beacon's visibility, promote its mission, and engage various community partners. The Director will oversee internal and external communications, public relations, media relations, and digital content. They will also develop program and project-specific communication strategies to support effective communication of new and existing programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Development:
Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement effective communication strategies that align with Beacon's mission and vision
Public Relations:
Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key influencers to enhance Beacon's public image
Survey and Data Management:
Design and implement surveys, collect feedback, and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts, audience engagement, and community partner satisfaction. Use insights to refine strategies and improve communication outcomes
Content Management:
Develop and oversee the creation and distribution of engaging content across multiple platforms, including press releases, newsletters, social media, and Beacon's website
Internal Communications:
Develop and implement internal communication plans and tools to ensure staff are informed and engaged with the Beacon's activities and goals
Brand Management:
Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communications materials and channels by developing key messaging and brand templates
Partner Engagement:
Collaborate with program leaders and community partners to support program promotion and fundraising initiatives
Event Coordination:
Plan and execute communication strategies for special events and campaigns
Team Collaboration:
Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment by leading contractors, co-op students, and coordinating with others leading communications activities
Crisis Communication:
Lead the communication response during crises, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
5+ years of experience in a senior communications role
Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, Canva, photo and video editing software
Experience with social media platforms and channels (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite etc.)
Experience with media relations
Experience with content management systems
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships
Survey design skills and the ability to analyze data
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Skilled in the use of MS 365 (Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
Graphic design skills would be an asset
