The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced executive to join VicGrid in the role of Director, Legal and General Counsel. This is a new position which is integral to VicGrid establishing its in-house legal team. You will provide expert and strategic legal advice on a range of matters including commercial and corporate activities. This role presents a unique opportunity to establish and lead the legal function and team within VicGrid to support the business manage legal and regulatory risks in the delivery of our high-profile program of work. As VicGrid continues to evolve and establish itself, this position will report into the Chief Executive Officer, noting the intent to have the overarching legal function led by an Executive Director, Commercial and Legal. What you will deliver You will provide strategic legal expertise, advice and support to the CEO, Executive and broader team in relation to commercial and legal issues. Establish, coach and lead a multidisciplinary team, including external advisors, ensuring timely and efficient high quality legal advice and services to meet VicGrid's evolving needs. Advise on and manage, with external counsel as appropriate, the resolution of disputes, litigation and regulatory matters affecting VicGrid. Oversee and direct strategic management of legal risks by ensuring the proactive identification, mitigation and communication of potential risks while partnering with executive leadership team to ensure the protection of VicGrid's interests through robust legal strategies and solutions. What you will bring A tertiary qualification in Law and admission to legal practice in Victoria. Senior legal experience leading in house legal teams and cross functional teams within a complex public or private organisation. Extensive experience and specialist knowledge in infrastructure law, including analysing and resolving complex commercial and legal issues on major infrastructure projects. Experience in due diligence processes including the assessment of legal and commercial risks of potential commercial transactions, and implementation of measures to manage risks identified. Your ability to provide advice on procurement strategies, and lead the lifecycle of contract management from a legal perspective, from drafting, negotiating, through to contract management support on major infrastructure projects. Proven track record of leading and coaching high-performing and client-oriented teams to success through collaboration and engagement.
