Primary Objective: Provide leadership and strategic oversight of activities to manage statutory industry reporting, provide advice on industry exploration work programs, and maximise the accessibility and usability of industry-submitted technical reports, geoscientific data, and samples, to support the Territory's exploration sector.
Context Statement: The Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) is the custodian of knowledge and data on the Territory's geology and resources and undertakes activities to support and grow the minerals and energy exploration industry.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Provide strategic leadership and operational direction to ensure incoming and legacy industry reports, data, information and samples are appropriately captured, managed and made accessible to clients according to legislation.Lead the provision of specialist advice within government regarding industry exploration work programs, the grant and renewal of titles, and statistics on reported exploration and production.Develop and implement strategies to streamline the submission and management of incoming industry reports, data and samples.Enhance the Territory's competitiveness in attracting exploration investment by leading continual improvement of the accessibility, quality and usability of open file industry data and samples.Provide strategic leadership for NTGS Core Facilities in Darwin and Alice Springs, including planning for future expansion, delivery of best practice client service, and provision of high-quality logistical support to NTGS field programs.Selection Criteria: Essential: Tertiary qualification in geoscience or a related discipline from a recognised university.Substantial knowledge of the resources exploration industry, including current industry trends and technologies.Detailed knowledge of data and information management principles and technologies, especially relating to spatial data.High level oral and written communication skills, including preparation of briefings, presentations, and technical reports, with an ability to articulate technical and complex issues to a range of audiences.Demonstrated high level interpersonal and negotiation skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective relationships and influence outcomes with a diverse range of stakeholders.High level contemporary leadership and management skills with demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets and working collaboratively across a multidisciplinary team and with peers.Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety policies and principles and the logistics of field-based programs.Desirable: Knowledge of the geology and mineral and energy resources of the Northern Territory.High-level understanding of legislation relating to the resources industry in the Northern Territory.Experience working within the exploration industry.Further Information: Further information on NTGS and the Territory's resources sector can be found at www.resourcingtheterritory.nt.gov.au.
