This is a great opportunity for an early career researcher with a PhD in virology, microbiology, immunology or vaccinology, working at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness in Geelong.CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.To help mitigate the negative biosecurity impacts of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses, the successful candidate will develop novel vaccine strategies against highly pathogenic avian influenza virus and assess vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy in poultry, contributing to national preparedness.Your duties will include:Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.Recognise and utilise opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research.Utilise design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals, and apply non-academic impact methodology to research projects.Carry out research investigations requiring originality, creativity and innovation.Record, manage, and analyse data/information using relevant domain data science techniques.Location: Geelong, VICSalary: AU$96k - AU$105k plus up to 15.4% superannuationTenure: Specified term of 3 yearsReference: 97839To be considered you will need:A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as virology, microbiology, immunology or vaccinology. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.Experience in egg or cell culture techniques for virus isolation, molecular cloning, vaccine development, and/or working in a PC3 laboratory is highly desirable.Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents.
